Initially, the Ethiopian tribe called Oromo used to grind coffee beans and blended them with fat to use them as energy bars. As per a popular story, a goat herder named Kaldi observed that his goats turned out to be more energetic every time they had berries from a specific tree. Kaldi told the monk of the nearby monastery who then prepared a drink out of those berries and confirmed that it helped him remain awake for night prayers. Seeing this, many other monks started taking coffee beans. The news was transmitted to the Arabian Peninsula. Afterward, Arab traders around 1000AD brought back coffee beans from Africa. They began heating up the beans, making a drink called “qahwa”, which today identifies as “coffee” in Arabic.

6. All coffee in the entire world is produced in the Bean Belt.
