New Year, New You: How To Look After Your Health In 2018

The new year is finally here which means that many people will be making some rather large changes. If you’re looking to revamp your lifestyle, an excellent place to start is with your health. Many people are so very busy that they don’t take proper care of themselves. Here are just a handful of ways you can boost your self-care and make sure that you’re living your best (and healthiest) life.

Get as much sleep as possible

Sleep is a crucial part of your lifestyle. While many are under the impression that failing to rest merely affects how you feel, it could have a direct impact on your physical health and well-being. In fact, a recent study from the University of Leeds found that a lack of sleep could put adults at risk of obesity.

The truth of the matter is that different people need different amounts of sleep but, on average, it’s suggested that you get around 7-8 hours per night. It may be a case of changing your current routine (and hitting the hay earlier) to make sure you get the rest you need.

Start the morning right

Each morning, when you get up, you have the chance to start the day off well. You may start the day with a large coffee, but perhaps there’s another way to wake up. There is a whole host of benefits to drinking a cup of hot water with lemon in it instead.

It’s widely reported that making this small change to your daily routine could help you lose weight, boost your immune system and keep you well hydrated. Once you get into the routine of drinking this zesty drink every morning, it could make all the difference to how you feel.

Give your feet some TLC

Busy moms are often on their feet for much of the waking day. It’s only natural that your feet may need some extra TLC after all that hardship. Whether you’ve got bunions or ingrown nails, it’s time to sort them out. Foot-related problems tend to worsen when you don’t pay attention to them right away.

You don’t always have to see a physician. Products, such as gel insoles, bunion splints, and toe separators are available over-the-counter in drugstores or online. That means that much of the time, you can deal with a minor foot pain issue quickly by yourself. (Note: In cases of extreme pain or far-gone ailments, you should consult a doctor!)

Avoid diets, but eat healthily

So often people start dieting right at the start of the New Year. Don’t do it. Rather than a crash diet that drains your energy, you may need a lifestyle change. Healthy eating is not a trend, but a way of life. When you remember that, everything else should fall swiftly into place.

Making sure that you get protein, healthy fats, nutrients, and vitamins is essential. A good place to start is by making your own meals on a daily basis, rather than relying on freezer meals or fast food. It could also be worth doing a little research on this topic. For instance, the government’s nutrition site has a wealth of helpful information and tips to get you started.

Practice the art of meditation

While you may already take great care of your body, you also have to consider your mind too. Do you look after your mental well-being too? Meditating and practicing mindfulness could help you look after your emotional health.

There’s been a body of research on this topic. For example, one study from Harvard University found that mindfulness could help to ease any anxiety that a person may be experiencing as well as decreasing stress levels too! Start small and learn some of the core practices of meditation. In doing so, you may see a dramatic difference in how you feel and how you handle your emotions on a daily basis.
