The Pros and Cons of Being a Pet Lover

Sharing is caring!

Are you a pet parent? If you’ve been for some time, then you probably have an idea of what it takes to see your best animal friend grow up to maturity. But if you’re not and are considering to own one soon, then it’s only fair that you know of the challenges and the perks of owning a pet. While there are different types of pets, you must be willing to commit yourself to take care of your animal friend.

Pets are a common sight in most households and it’s their innocence, loving nature, and cuddliness that draw us towards them and them to us. Nonetheless, owning a pet can at times seem overwhelming because, let’s face it, they are living creatures with needs and taking care of one is easier said than done. Checking online resources like Safest Pets can help. Also make sure to check out this great post on 54 Powerful Pet Statistics! Lots of great information!

Below, we’ll be looking at the pros and cons of being a pet lover.

Cons

Financial obligations

Owning a pet isn’t cheap. Owning a pet is like adding an additional member to your family. While under your roof, they’ll need to be fed, cleaned, and provided with healthcare. Other expenses of owning a pet include vaccination, parasite prevention, and grooming. As they age, they are more prone to diseases and this adds to the medical expenses.

Pets can be messy

No matter how well you train your pet, you’ll never get rid of their animal instincts. They’ll tear down your carpets, shoes, clothes, and then, finally pee or poop on your expensive carpets. Unlike children, some pets cannot be potty-trained. This means that you’ll need to go out of your way to clean after their poop, urine, and other messes. Alternatively, you may opt for hired help most especially when it comes to cleaning your carpets and upholstery. The guys at Royal Cleaning London point out that you need to rely on expert carpet cleaning services in helping to guarantee the quality of your carpets. And thanks to the internet, professional carpet cleaners are just a few clicks away. And if you’ve been wondering why some rental spaces have strict laws regarding owning pets, this is one of the reasons why!

They are a liability

If your dog was to attack your neighbor, you’d be held liable for their medical expenses and other associated costs. This is the same case if your pet was to destroy someone else’s property. You’d be responsible for the repair of the damaged property. Some pets can cause you to be in loggerheads with your neighbors. So before taking in a new pet, you need to know that the pet’s behavior will not jeopardize your relationship with your neighbors.

The thought of saying goodbye

Pets have a shorter life expectancy than humans. Now, unless you have a Bowhead Whale for a pet, you’ll outlive your pet. This means that you may have to see them deteriorate health-wise or die. If you are a pet lover, this can be a difficult and painful experience for you. It’s perhaps one of the main reasons why most people do not own pets, all for fear of losing them.

Pros:

Pets are great companions

For starters, they don’t talk back at you, unless when wronged, but this wouldn’t be considered as talking, would it? You get the picture though. There are many benefits of owning a pet and compared to humans, pets will offer you consistent love and support. They’ll never leave you unless when stranded or lost. In addition to this, pet ownership can help to fight depression, loneliness, and anxiety. The simple act of a cat rubbing on your feet is enough to melt your heart.

They’ll help you to keep fit

Disclaimer alert, not all pets! Some pets like it when you take them for walks. Dogs to be specific are great workout companions. This is not only beneficial to you, but to the dog’s health as well. A running dog is a happy and healthy dog. They’ll drag you from your couch and make you run up and down the park every other day. So if you’re looking for a personal trainer, look no further!

You become better in your relations

Have you ever seen a groom pet owner? They are always smiling, jovial, and responsive. This is unless, of course, when cleaning the poop or yelling about a torn carpet. But generally, the community of pet owners is a friendly one. It’s easier to initiate a conversation with a lady walking their dog in the park than a lady who’s by herself. A simple

  1. I came into this article thinking that there aren’t any cons to being a pet lover, but you reminded of the day a few months ago that my dog got sick all over the carpets. Luckily the carpet cleaners took care of it, but that definitely wasn’t pleasant! Overall though, the pros of pets definitely make up for it!
