Things To Do In Cincinnati – May 19-21, 2017

It’s Friday, finally! After a hectic week of shuttling kids back and forth from school, extracurricular activities, running errands, maintaining household chores, etc. I’m ready for a relaxing weekend spent with my family, that doesn’t involve school activities, trips to the grocery store or otherwise rushing around like a chicken with its head cut off. Weekends revolve around family activities and spending time together that is otherwise tied up during the week with everyone’s conflicting schedules.

One of the great things about where we live, in Cincinnati, is there is always something to keep you busy. Whether it’s spending an afternoon at our local mall, taking the kids to one of our beautiful parks or taking advantage of the night life and having a cozy date night, there are endless possibilities on how you can spend your time here. This is true, both during the weekend but also throughout the week as well.
In anticipation of the upcoming weekend and the promise of time spent with my family, I decided to a do little digging to see what our fair city had planned to keep everyone occupied. I’m not adverse to staying home during the weekend by any means but with a schedule that has been dedicated mainly to work and school related activities, we could all use a change of pace as a reward for staying so focused these last few weeks. If you’re in the Cincinnati area, you’re in luck, there’s quite a few things happening during the course of the weekend that is perfect for singletons, families and couples!
To help give you some ideas of what events are available in the area this weekend, I’ve compiled a list of a few things I uncovered that are going on. There are a few different ideas for every group size and age that I hope will help you decide which one would be best suited to your tastes.
  1. The Great American Ball Park. Home to the Cincinnati Reds, the ball park is a great place for you and your sports fanatic family members/friends to gather on a weekend. From May 19-21, you can watch with rapt attention as the Cincinnati Reds take on the Rockies as well as take advantage of half price tickets!
  2. International Butterfly Show. Nothing is more majestic than the Monarch Butterfly. These gentle creatures are fascinating to watch and just as lovely to behold. At the International Butterfly Show, you can experience thousands of free-flying butterflies fly around throughout the topical environment inside of the Krohn Conservatory from now until May 23rd. Parking is free to guests and tickets are super affordable for every member of your group.
  3. Cincinnati May Festival. If you love music and support young musicians, then you have to stop in to take part in the May Festival. Since the festivals conception, it has served to foster the talents of both vocal and instrumental musicians who are a part of the community. From this weekend until May 27th, you can experience the up and coming talents of your local musicians and show your support for their passions by attending the festival with your loved ones.
  4. American Sign Museum. Offering free parking to visitors, the American Sign Museum is open to the public all year around and is a great way to spend the early morning or afternoon out with your family or group of friends. Educational and fun, the museum allows you to revisit the history of the U.S through vintage signs. It’s also not a bad option as a casual date meeting space either, if you’re looking for low-key and low pressure.
  5. Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The Zoo is the ultimate weekend activity if you have little ones who love animals and seeing exotic creatures up close. From majestic creatures like Giraffe’s, Hippo’s and Elephants, there are many different species that call the Cincinnati Zoo home. Not only is a great way to spend the day with family but the Zoo can also double as a fun and casual date location as well. This is especially if you take a tour of the Botanical Garden as well during your visit. Nothing is more romantic and mood setting than strolling through a garden of rare and exotic flowers/plants.
  6. The City Flea. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a good flea market. The quaint shops, inexpensive prices and enticing food booths draw in visitors like flies to honey and the City Flea is a popular gathering place on the weekends for just those qualities. This Urban flea market is a delightful blend of fun booths, mouthwatering smells and intriguing trinkets.
Believe it or not, those 6 weekend activities are just the tip of the iceberg here in Cincinnati. There are a seemingly endless variety of things to do if you’re looking to get out of the house, spend time with family/friends or go solo adventuring. You don’t even have to use the internet to check and see what’s going on, you can give in to spontaneity and get in the car with no destination and visit whatever you happen to pass on your way through town! You won’t be disappointed, no matter where you end up this weekend!
