Father’s Day Crafts – Hand Print Canvas Gift for Dad
Supplies:
- 8″ x 10″ Canvas Board
- Finger Paint
- Small Paint Brush
- Fine Tip Permanent Marker
- Eager Little Hands (And Feet If You Like)
- Optional Paper or Cardboard For A Trial Run
Instructions:
Begin by pouring a small amount of finger paint into a shallow dishes. I used 3 different colors to create the butterfly shown. The shallow dishes will make it easier to apply paint to tiny hands and feet.
You may want to do a trial run on a piece of cardboard or paper to determine the best layout for the hand prints. This also gives little hands a chance to get used to the gooey paint covering their palms.
Apply a small amount of paint, one hand to a time, with the small paint brush. Carefully press the hand to the paper and repeat until you’ve created the butterfly. If you have more than one child, use several hands to make up the butterfly. Whether you have 1 or 5, hands and feet both work well. Use the outside of the hand, from the tip of the pinkie to the wrist, to create the butterfly’s body and the sides of the pinkie for the feelers.
After you’ve decided how you want the hands (or hands and feet) placed and practiced on paper, repeat on the canvas.
Allow paint to dry completely.
Using a fine tip permanent marker, write each child’s name next to the print that belongs to them.
You can add a sweet message using paint, marker, or stickers if you want or simply leave it as shown.
Father’s Day crafts like this will simply make Dad’s heart melt!

I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
I love this idea, I would frame it and add words. Something like: These were my hands when I was only ____
(insert the childs age ) then on the bottom I would put the date and the name of the child. You never know if you will have more children, and especially if this is for Grand parents. What a wonderful gift this would make. Just frame it, and it becomes a keepsake. LOVE IT !!!!!
