Earth Day 2016

Now that spring is finally here we all want to spend as much time as possible outside. There are a lot of events happening here in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas in celebration of Earth Day, and we’re encouraging everyone to take part in as many as possible! These events aren’t just on April 22nd, so you’ll be able to go to more than one activity if you have the time. Let’s celebrate the environment and have some fun in the sun while we’re at it. We hope to see you at some of these events!

Go Enjoy Yourself Outside!

On April 21st the Campbell County Cooperative Extension Service is giving away different trees. Go get a sapling, plant it in your backyard, and watch it grow!

On Earth Day the conservatory will have free-flying butterflies in underwater-themed decor. It’s going to be a sight to behold! And the first 300 visitors will get a free seedling!

Fairfield Parks and Rec is putting on a tree planting ceremony at 1:00p.m. on Earth Day. They’re giving away free Earth Day t-shirts, too.

These days solar panels aren’t just sitting on rooftops. You can buy relatively inexpensive solar panels that you can strap to the back of backpacks or just lay out in the sun while you’re home. You can charge phones, laptops, tablets, and most small home electronics using these small solar panels, and they’ll quickly pay for themselves.

This is a 3-mile hike in the Fernald Preserve. The full moon will light your way. Celebrate the moon and the earth at the same time!

On April 23rd volunteers are going to pick up litter, cut back brush, and do some weeding in one of Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhoods.

In Washington Park on April 23rd there’s going to be eco-friendly activities and vendors at Civic Lawn. Don’t miss out on the live music, food, and fun activities for kids.

Eating vegetables you grew in your own backyard is not only delicious, it’s great for the environment. Plant your own garden and save some trips to the grocery store.

Go to Amberley Village Hall on April 25th for the screen of Trees in Trouble, a film that was done locally about America’s urban and community forests.

Buying local not only supports local and small companies, but it helps the environment as well. These companies don’t use the same chemicals that large corporations do in order to make supplies and grow food.

Don’t Forget the Lawn!

When spring comes we spend so much time thinking about how to enjoy it that we forget about our lawns.
