3 of the Most Stressful Drives: How to Reduce the Stress

Sharing is caring!

Many people think the most stressful drive of their life was the one just before they got their license. While passing your test might have been the time you worried about your driving ability the most, there are other times in life where you might be more stressed on the road. It’s important that you try and reduce your stress whenever you drive, as any distractions could take your attention away from the road. Here are a few ways you can reduce the risks caused by stress.

Vacation

While going on vacation should be the most relaxing time of year for you, getting there can often be one of the most stressful. Plan your route carefully before setting off. Choose some destinations like a caf or a mall to stop off at on the way so you can refuel and stretch your legs. If you have children in the back seats, it can be even more difficult keeping them entertained during the long journey. Plan some activities that they can complete in the car, like watching a film on a tablet device or playing a traditional driving game.

When you’re going away on vacation, especially if you’re going camping, the amount of luggage you must fit into the car can cause a lot of problems. Try and pack only the things you’ll need and arrange these to make best use of your trunk space. Make sure nothing is blocking any of the windows or mirrors that you will have to look at during the drive.

Moving house

Having to move all your belongings from one place to another can be one of the most stressful experiences of your life. That experience can be even more stressful if you’re planning on transporting your belongings yourself. If you were to move everything on your own, you’d have to hire out a large van and maybe even make multiple trips. Driving an unusual car that is much bigger than what you’re used to, on top of all the other stresses surrounding the day, just isn’t a good idea at all.

Instead of hiring a van to drive yourself, consider hiring a portable storage unit instead. The company MI-BOX will deliver a unit to your old house and then transport it to your new home once you’ve packed up your furniture. You can hire the container for as long as you want, so there is no need to rush to pack and unpack all your belongings in one day.

To the delivery room

While it might not be the most taxing job of the day, driving a loved one who is about to give birth to a hospital can be very stressful. Although the driver will be concerned about the welfare of the mother to be, it’s important they can focus on the road. Plan your route to the hospital in advance and check the best place to park beforehand. Make sure you have any important items, like an overnight bag or an emergency phone charger, in the car with you at all times so you can just jump in once the waters break.
