Treating yourself doesn’t have to be extravagant or complicated — a simple gesture of kindness toward yourself is often more than enough. The key is to give yourself a break and enjoy something that brings you a little bit of peace and happiness. Whether that means a box of chocolates or a new cozy sweater is entirely up to you.

When you’re in the throes of new parenthood, it can feel like all of your time for personal projects evaporates into thin air. While parenting does indeed take up the majority of your time, setting aside an hour or two to work on a personal project can be incredibly fulfilling. Not only that, but it can help you fill up on energy, joy, peace, and so much more. If you were working on a painting to hang in your new child’s room, take a few hours to put some work in on that. Were you in the middle of planning your new vegetable garden when parenthood came knocking? Carve out half a day and start building your dream garden. Not only can landscaping add almost 14% to the value of your home, but it can be an incredibly soothing activity. Whether you’ve been meaning to get back into writing or there’s a home improvement project you’ve been dying to finish, make sure to take time for projects that matter to you.

Get Your Hair Done

Self-care in this instance refers to physically taking care of yourself. Taking care of your hair is both taking care of yourself physically and mentally. But please resist the urge to grab the kitchen shears! Going in to see your favorite hairstylist is absolutely an act of self-care. Plus, having your hair taken care of by a professional and being pampered for an hour or two is certainly a nice treat for yourself. If nothing else, it will give you a little bit of “me” time to enjoy without your child around.
