3 Tips to Spruce Up Your Home During COVID-19

Sharing is caring!

While the average person typically spends about 90% of their time indoors when there isn’t a pandemic, the COVID-19 crisis has left many of us feeling stir-crazy. After all, it’s one thing to stay home because you’d like to and another to stay home because it’s your civic duty.

That said, there are a few ways you can freshen up your family’s space to help make staying home a little less of a nightmare. Here are some tips you can use to give your home a little bit of a face-lift.

Give yourself a view of the outdoors

According to a study on employee monitoring, workers who grind it out at work without taking breaks are 48% more likely to experience stress at home. Fortunately, another study suggests that simply looking at plants can help to reduce stress. If you’re spending much of your time indoors and you’re working indoors, consider moving around your furniture so you’re facing a window. Many people have their living room couches turned to face the TV and or have their desks turned to face the wall. By turning your furniture so you can look outside regularly, you can help to reduce some of the stress you’re feeling by taking in the sights of local trees, grass, and (occasionally) the sun.

Give your walls a fresh coat of paint

The average person moves approximately 12 times in their lifetime, and interior walls are typically painted every three to five years. Consider the last time you gave your living or dining room a fresh coat of paint. Change up your wall color by going from white to a soft gray or go bold with emerald green or navy blue. If going all-out isn’t your thing, consider opting for an accent wall. You can even use peel-and-stick wallpaper so you don’t have to commit to one choice. You can either buy paint or peel-and-stick wallpaper online or order ahead from your local hardware store to go pick it up.

Switch out furniture

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to give your home a fresh new look. Sometimes just switching out the furniture you have in each room can help give your space a different vibe. For instance, if you have an accent chair in your living room and one in your bedroom, consider swapping them to see how they look in a different spot. Use an accent table from your living room as a new nightstand. Giving new purposes to old items can help to make your home feel new and exciting.

It can be tricky to make your family’s space feel fresh when you’ve been staying inside during most of the year. However, by following the tips above, you can help to make your home feel a little bit fresher.
