4 Cleaning Tips When Moving Into a New Apartment

Sharing is caring!

A new apartment presents a new start, a new opportunity at a new life, and endless possibilities. But before you get started on the new life, having a clean place to move into is also very important. If it is newly constructed, there will be dust and debris and other leftover dirt from the building process, while an established home also means dirt and other leftover waste may be found in different places.

So, here are some cleaning tips to help you leave your new apartment sparkling clean and healthy to move into.

Start from the top

It is better to start cleaning dust and cobwebs from the high places and top of the space, like ceiling fans, vents, lighting fixtures, ceiling covers, and other high places, as dirt is not only found on floors and corner walls. It becomes smarter to do that when you realize that the dirt from the top settles below, so it will make the overall cleaning easier and more organized.

Clean the cabinets and other features

Cabinets, cupboards, closets, drawers, and other similar features should be cleaned next. Use a simple multipurpose cleaner to clean them, if they are wooden and painted so as not to scrub the painting off. For greasy kitchen cabinets, you can use a gentle cleanser to clean them, plus the handle, cabinet doors, and drawers. You can either use a paper towel or a clean cloth.

Next, turn to the fridge. Apply a sanitizer or disinfectant for a few minutes to kill any germs or bacteria from leftover/decomposing food. Using simple cleaning soap and water, clean the shelves and drawers with a clean cloth, then proceed to clean the walls and all the other surfaces.

If there is any stubborn or stuck dirt, soak and leave the cleaning solution in for a bit.

After that, appliances like the microwave, stove, dishwashers can also be cleaned with the soap solution.

Pay attention to the bathrooms and toilet

To clean the bathroom, all you need is soap and disinfectant. The walls and edges are very important and should be cleaned spotless, using a clean cloth. The anti-bacterial spray is also advisable to clean the air and get rid of microscopic germs. Clean and sanitize the handles, seats, switches, and other handheld features.

Remember, disinfect the toilet very carefully. It should not be done like routine cleaning, but very meticulous, down to the edge and unexpected areas for any lurking germs.

For hard water stains, soak in an acid solution to help break it down, especially on metal surfaces.

The Floors and other places

You can clean out other spots and if needed a disinfectant spray can also be used.

Finish with the floors by cleaning and dusting the carpets, cleaning the wooden floors with a vacuum to thoroughly clear out the crevices and corners, for any remaining dirt.

Always use a product that is safe for whatever surface you are cleaning it with. For efficient floor and carpet cleaning, it is always helpful to call in a professional cleaning service to do the job.

Conclusion

Cleaning a new apartment is a tasking job. Sometimes, it’s a job best left for the professionals. If you have a small budget, you can always hire a professional cleaner to help with getting your apartment up to spark. There are also apartment and condo cleaning companies that you can hire.
