Parenting Like a Pro: Practical Advice From Today’s Top Mom Bloggers

Sharing is caring!

Becoming a new mom is scary and exciting in equal measure. There is a lot of advice out there, but sometimes it can seem like there is so much that it’s hard to know whose advice to follow.Sometimes the best option is to look to other moms who have been there and done it before. So here are some expert tips from some of the top mom bloggers on the internet to help you out when parenting is tough.

Focus on What Your Child Really Needs

NerdWallet published a piece providing advice from mom bloggers, and one of the moms featured was Emma Johnson. She is a finance journalist and blogs at Wealthy Single Mommy, and her advice was that babies actually don’t need that much.

The basics that a baby really needs are to stay clean, to eat, to sleep, and to receive lots of hugs. They don’t need expensive clothes and the best of the best toys and new baby gadgets. Instead, keep it simple and don’t worry about not having absolutely everything.

It can be easy as a new parent to buy everything that your baby might possibly need, but actually, it can be better to keep it simple. It can seem like everything is necessary at the beginning, and this can be overwhelming, so just focus on the basics if you find yourself getting overwhelmed.

Buy Used Clothes

In the same article, Kim Anderson, who is the founder of Thrifty Little Mom, provided some advice on making savings.

Money can be tight when a child comes along, as most new moms will soon realize. It’s therefore a good idea to look for ways to save money where you can.

She suggests that you can sell old baby clothes back to some stores on consignment, which you can do at certain stores like Plato’s Closet. Here, you can sell your old clothes and purchase other clothes that have only been lightly used.

This can be a great way to save money on new clothes. Babies grow out of their clothes so quickly that often it doesn’t make sense to keep on buying new clothes, so this can be a great way to keep on top of your spending.

Get Your Budget In Order

Some more financial advice was provided by Tracie Fobes from Penny Pinchin’ Mom, who recommends creating a budget and sticking to it. For many people, setting a budget is something that they have not done before, but it is especially important when you have a baby.

It’s really important to work out where the money goes, and then you can make decisions about where you want to use your money rather than spending it on unnecessary things.

You Won’t Know Everything

Mom Tricks also published an article offering tips from 50 mom bloggers, and one of the moms featured was Leah Segedie, who blogs at Mamavation. She said that new moms should not feel like they should know everything, and she wished someone would have told her that when she had her first child.

Kids do not expect their parents to be perfect, and all they need is a lot of love. It is better to simply use your intuition instead and do what you feel is right.

It Goes Very Fast

In the same piece, Vera Sweeney, who writes at Lady and the Blog, said that it all goes very quickly. This can be hard to appreciate this with your first child, and it makes it so important to enjoy it as much as you can.

Get Sleep When You Can

Sleep deprivation is one of the biggest problems for new moms. One tip that many moms provide to new moms is to get some sleep when your baby sleeps during the day, which is a good time to catch up on your sleep. Consider something like a Babynest to help your baby sleep soundly at nap time, and then you can get some shut-eye too.

A Whole List of Tips from Real Moms

Stephanie Sprenger, who is another mom blogger, launched a social media movement called “I’m Glad Someone Told Me” where real moms share quotes about things they are glad someone told them. There are lots of snippets of great advice and information, and you can check out the best at the Huffington Post.
