If lazing beside the pool or beach all day with a book and cocktail in hand is not your kind of thing, or at least not all the time, then we are here to help with the ultimate list of top five thrill-seeking things to do in Phuket. From quad bike riding to rock climbing and bungee jumping, you’ll find we’ve got plenty of great ideas to get you outn’about in nature and enjoying all the wonderful and unique ways Phuket can entertain the intrepid travelers. So, without further ado, let’s jump on in and discover what Thailand’s premier island has to offer active and thrill-seeking visitors.

- Quad Biking
Quad (ATV) biking is a real extreme adventure for anybody who likes to get off the beaten track. After an in-depth safety and skills briefing about how to control your personal ATV, you’ll soon be off with your guide to traverse paddy fields, navigate muddy paths in the jungle and careen over verdant mountain ranges. Depending on the tour you choose, you will see rubber trees, mangroves, hillocks, beaches and if you’re fortunate, lots and lots of squelchy mud! The opportunities for ATV adventure on the island are truly limitless.
- Bungee Jumping
This activity isn’t for the faint of heart. Bungy jumping offers one of the most challenging and thrilling adventures on the island. Picture yourself plummeting from a 50-metre-high crane down to an emerald green lake in the middle of lush vegetation. Run by a team of New Zealand professionals, Jungle Bungy Jump gives you a choice of five different jumping styles: standard Bungy, tandem Bungy, water touch Bungy (dip your hand or full head), backward Bungy and reverse Bungy (start from the ground and get propelled into the air like a catapult).
- Sea Canoe
Phang Nga Bay in Phuket is a fantastic area full of enormous limestone formations and the perfect place to take to the water in a sea kayak for a fun half-day (trust us, your arms won’t take more than that!) of exploration. Discover a mysterious and hidden world of brilliant crystalline limestone caves as you weave your way amongst the rocks. Take a dip in a secluded beach. One of the most popular tours of the region starts at Laem Sai Pier and takes in Panak Island, Hong Island, James Bond Island and Lawa Island.
- Rock Climbing
Given that Phuket and its surrounding islands offer a plethora of beautiful vistas, pristine conditions, gorgeous weather and heaps of craggy rock faces, it’s the ideal rock-climbing destination. In fact, Southern Thailand has some of the best-known climbing locations in the country. Many of the routes start right on the beach and offer spectacular views from their summit. There are suitable routes for both beginner and experienced climbers. Feel a real sense of pride as you scale the mountain and abseil back down.
- Scuba Diving
Of course, no Phuket adventure list would be complete without mentioning scuba diving. Whether you’re a newbie who needs to learn the basics and get their PADI license or an experienced diver looking for their next hit, Phuket has plenty of great dive sites to explore. Indeed, the local dive scene is so great that it’s considered amongst the top 10 worldwide! Full and half-day diving day trips to the islands of Phi Phi, Racha, Similan and Surin operate all-year-round; highlights include the King Cruiser wreck, close to Anemone Reef and Shark Point, home to many Leopard sharks.
There truly are hundreds of fun and active things to do in Phuket and we hope you’ve enjoyed this short recap of the most thrilling and memorable ones. Now get out there and enjoy!
