When you first buy a house with a backyard and all that, your life changes in many wonderful ways. This is a dream come true for many people, and for good reason. It is not really easy buying property today, and real estate prices are anything but cheap. But if there is one worthwhile investment, it’s definitely buying a house. The problem, though, is that owning a house with a backyard comes with a few problems, the worst of which is having to deal with pests and insects.

Here are 6 types of pesticides and insecticides that can help you deal with such problems.

  1. Inorganic Insecticides

Most of the products we use around the common household for insect/pest control are insecticides, and one of the most popular types is inorganic insecticides which we use quite often. Those are of mineral origin, and they contain some highly toxic materials to insects like boric acid and arsenic trioxide powder. The former is used for cockroach elimination, while the latter is more commonly used for termites. Some inorganic insecticides have decreased in popularity because they can have harmful effects on pets like dogs or cats as well as humans in some cases. They are also not biodegradable, so they are not exactly ideal for the environment, regardless of how efficient they might be in killing insects.

  1. Miticides

So, you have a house with a lovely backyard, and you water it every day and make sure it’s carefully trimmed. Yet, you might suddenly find that it is dying and your plants are withering, despite you trying your best to look after them. This probably means you’re facing a mite infestation. Mites feed on the moisture in the plants, and they can shorten your plant’s lifetime. This is why you should use miticides. They will help you control that mite infestation and limit its effect and damage to your backyard. Miticides can also be used to get rid of ticks, which can be quite harmful to animals and humans as well.

  1. Pyrethrins

Organic pyrethrins are arguably the most popular insecticide for a variety of reasons. For starters, it is a natural insecticide that you can get from plants ֖ the chrysanthemum flower. It can be used to eliminate a wide range of insects and pests. Gnats alone can drive you crazy, and this common pest is best treated with a pyrethrin aerosol. Another very good feature of pyrethrins is the fact that they are extremely effective, and they can eliminate the infestation or problem in as little time as possible. They also have very low toxicity to mammals, so you won’t have to worry about your family and pets being in danger if you used them. Last but not least, pyrethrins are biodegradable, so they pose little risk to the environment, especially if compared to other insecticides.

  1. Fungicides

Cockroaches and ants aren’t the only pest problems you might encounter around your place. Fungi and mold can be quite problematic, too, and they are not easily treated. You need fungicides for this problem, which can kill and prevent the growth of fungi and their spores. Mold can damage the structural integrity of your house, and fungi can infect plants and cause some serious damage. This is why you have to take care of this problem as early as possible.

  1. Organochlorine Pesticides

This is another very popular type of pesticides, and it has been used since the 40s. Organochlorine pesticides are organic compounds that have chlorine, and they are used as a contact or oral poison that affects pests’ nervous systems. Compounds like DDT, heptachlor, and heptachlor were quite popular at some point, but not so much now because they have bad effects on the environment. Most organochlorine pesticides that are still used today require some form of permit.

  1. Pheromones

These are chemicals that are used to limit the mating activity of certain pests. The idea behind this particular pesticide is how insects use pheromones to communicate with each other, so you use similar compounds to monitor and control their presence. It is a very effective strategy in agricultural areas.

It is always helpful to learn about the different types of pesticides and insecticides available so you know how to handle any infestations around your house. Any kind of pest infestation is quite annoying and it takes time, effort, and money to treat, especially if you let the problem fester. So, try to tackle any of those issues early on using some of these pesticides. Just make sure that the ones you are using aren’t violating any laws or regulations where you live.
