COVID-19 has had a massive impact on the United States as well as on families. Many people are taking care of all those little home projects they’ve been meaning to do. However, there are a few projects you might want to hold off on investing in until the COVID-19 quarantine ends.
Roof Replacement
Unless your roof is on the verge of collapse or becomes severely damaged, it can wait. Roofing repairs and replacements require both internal and external inspections and can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 .
While you might have been planning on getting a replacement, it can wait. The exception to this would be if you live in an area that gets heavy summer storms and you need to replace it for the structural soundness of your home. Roofing is loud and with children home from schools, it may be upsetting and difficult for them to deal with. If you are working from home, you might feel the same way. Cost might also be a factor if you have been laid off, furloughed, or are taking time off. Either way, take a new roof off your to do list for now.
Remodeling
Remodeling your kitchen, bathroom, or master suite can add a ton of value to your house. However, it also takes a long time, a lot of money, and requires a lot of people going in and out of your home all the time.
No matter how important a new kitchen might be to you, it’s best if you put off your remodeling plans until quarantine is over. Remodeling is a fun process but it’s filled with a lot to do and a lot to worry about. Not only would you endanger your family by having people going in and out all the time, but the people working on your home would be in danger too.
Also, if something goes horribly wrong with the remodel and your family needs to relocate while your home is fixed, you won’t be able to find somewhere else to stay very easily. So keep dreaming and saving up for that new kitchen for now.
Paving a Driveway
A nice new asphalt or paving stone driveway can be a huge selling point , but it’s not a great idea right now. While these things can be done quickly and they are not quite as expensive as roofing repairs, they can still be a decent chunk of change.
A new driveway also requires a lot of time and effort on the part of the people hired to do it. While they won’t have to enter your home, they will still be around. It’s best if you put off the new driveway until after the quarantine.
To choose an asphalt contractor, you have to consider the following factors so you can make an informed decision. Cost is a big factor. Paving an asphalt driveway costs $4,634 on average, with a typical range between $2,887 and $6,407. This project runs $7 to $13 per square foot, including $2 to $6 per square foot for materials and $5 to $7 per square foot for labor. Usually, concrete lasts up to 30 years, while asphalt lasts up to 20 years. However, this paving company in Minnesota says driveways may need to be replaced sooner or last longer depending on upkeep.
While small DIY projects are a great way to take up all the extra home time, leave the larger ones for after the quarantine. The last thing you want to do is leave yourself and your family vulnerable during this difficult time.
