Frameless mirrors are excellent for producing a minimalistic feel and luxurious style. Although more commonly used in bathrooms, they are functional because they allow more mirror space for use and are very easy to clean due to the absence of lots of nooks and crannies.
Why should you consider adding a frameless mirror to your mirror staples?
- Frameless mirrors are easier to keep clean and maintain. No frames mean you do not have to worry about corrosion or any other issue that may arise from the frame. Also, the mirror without frames is easier to keep clean because you can access the mirror pane easily. This makes cleaning simple and straight to the point.
- Apart from the fact that mirrors without frames are easier to keep clean and maintain, they are also straightforward to install. This owes to the fact that there are not too many components in the mirror.
- Frameless mirrors help you maintain healthy hygiene, which further keeps you safe from germs. How? The presence of mirror frames can sometimes function as a storehouse for bacteria and mold. Frameless mirrors remove this from the equation, which leaves your home healthier.
- Looking to style up space? Use frameless mirrors. Mirrors without frames, although they look minimalistic, can instantly transform the everyday look of your space into an elegant one.
- Due to the lack of frames and reinforcements that provide support to framed mirrors, the mirrors are usually produced with more durable glass. This makes them long-lasting and prevents them from cracking easily.
- Just like standard mirrors, mirrors without frames also make your space appear bigger than it actually looks. If there is a small space that you want to update, use a frameless mirror to achieve the feel of a spacious environment.
- Frameless mirrors contribute to a bright ambiance in the environment. The absence of frames means you have a more usable mirror space that will reflect light into your environment. This leaves the room bright and well illuminated.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Below are the materials and tools needed to install a frameless mirror in your space:
- Measuring tape
- Handsaw
- Level (four foot)
- Cordless or power drill
- Pine (one by two inch)
- Mirror mastic (Glue)
- Screw-tip attachment
- Caulking gun
- Drywall screws (One and a half inch)
- Clean towel or cloth
- Utility knife
- Hand gloves
PROCEDURES TO INSTALL FRAMELESS MIRROR APPROPRIATELY
- STEP 1
After deciding on the wall where you would like to install your frameless mirror, you need to identify and mark the location on the wall for the bottom edge of the mirror. Place a four-foot level at the marked spot. Tune the level until the bubble is aligned in the center between the lines of the bubble. Mark a line once alignment is achieved across the wall’s surface.
- STEP 2
For easier installation, support needs to be added on the wall for the mirror’s setup. Measure the diameter of the frameless mirror and note the measurement.
- STEP 3
Once that is done, pick up the pine that is one by two inches and cut into the dimensions measured on the mirror’s diameter using the hand saw.
- STEP 4
Place the cut pine on the wall’s surface and make sure it is lined up against the level line indicated on the wall.
- STEP 5
Fit a screw-tip attachment to the cordless or power drill. Attach the one-and-half inch drywall screws to the tip and use that to fasten the pine to the wall. Drill the screw in using a four-inch gap between each screw.
- STEP 6
Measure the mirror dimensions for the left and right edges of the mirror on the wall and mark them on the wall’s surface.
- STEP 7
Pick up your caulking gun and install the tube of mirror mastic in the gun. Make a one-quarter inch opening by cutting off the tube with a utility knife. Place the mirror on its face on a flat surface and apply beads of mirror mastic to it. Make sure the application is four-inch in from each side.
Apply mirror mastic on the indicated marks on the wall in a crisscross pattern.
- STEP 8
With the rear end of the mirror covering the wall, place the bottom edge of the mirror above the pine support on the wall. Line up the left and right sides with the indicated marks and push the mirror on the wall’s surface.
- STEP 9
Double the hand towel to make four layers. Then apply appropriate pressure to wipe the mirror in a criss-cross pattern, the same way the mirror mastic was applied. Repeat this until the mirror is firmly secured on the wall.
Leave the mirror for 24 hours to allow the glue set. Afterward, remove the pinewood support from the wall.
Your mirror is ready.
TIPS AND PRECAUTIONS
- Use hand gloves when handling the mirror.
- Before installation, get rid of outlet covers, wall lights, or switch covers present on the wall’s surface.
- Polish the edges of your mirror before installation.
- Avoid placing mirrors on walls with worn or loose surfaces. Repair the wall by scraping with a putty knife and applying a sealer before placing a mirror.
