Positive Thinking Can Change Your Life

Sharing is caring!

The most successful and happiest people think about what they want and how they can get it most of the time.  Positive thinking and developing a positive attitude towards life are two of the essential qualities a person can have to change or move their life forward.

When you think about what you want and how to get it, you feel happier and in greater control of your life because when you are thinking positively or happy all the same, your brain releases endorphins, which gives you a generalized feeling of well-being. As a result, you develop a positive attitude towards life, and you are happy most of the time.

Positive thinking influences the entirety of our lives and not just psychologically but physically as well. This is not just based on empirical verification alone, but also backed by science.

You can find  30 Powerful Quotes here but before learning everything about power of thought.

The Power of Thought

For years, scientists believe that the brain was static, unchanging, and locked. Over time, our understanding has changed drastically to the point where we now see the brain as plastic and continuously changing. Simple acts, like thinking, could affect not only the way your brain works but also its physical shape and structure as well.

According to neuroscientists, imagining an action and then doing it requires the same motor and sensory waves in the brain. For example, if you close your eyes and picture the letter D, the primary visual cortex responds in a similar way, it will when you look at the letter on the screen.

One fascinating study took two groups of people where they had to practice the piano for two hours a day. However, one group was not allowed to touch the piano. They were only allowed to sit in front of it and imagine practicing it. The surprising result was that the exact same physical changes took place in the motor cortex of both groups.

After 3 days, their accuracy in playing was the exact same. Although the group that was allowed to practice physically began to excel faster, after 7 days, the imagination group was able to catch up to them when given a chance to practice

In a nutshell, this goes to show that from a neuroscience point of view, how we think and what we think affects our lives in some way.

How Positive thinking can change your life

Now that we have proven that even according to science, thinking affects our being, the question remains how positive thinking can improve your life. The following are some of the reasons why you should start thinking, all the more positively

Boosts your Health

Happier people tend to live longer than their counterparts, and the reason is not too far-fetched. As stated earlier, positive and happy thoughts make the brain release endorphins, which are also known as feel good hormones.

These endorphins are natural antidepressants, and when your body gets enough of them, it lowers your chances of giving in to depression. Also, some of our immune cells have receptors that need endorphins to function correctly.

When our body gets proper doses of endorphins, our immune system can easily fight off infections and diseases. Hence, you feel energized and generally healthy every time. That is where the universal catchphrase laughter is the best medicine comes from.

It increases your confidence

How many times have you been hard on yourself for that missed opportunity because you were too shy or overly worried that things could go wrong?

Studies have shown that optimists, unlike pessimists, are high achievers. That is because they exude confidence and, as a result, get more things done.

Because positive thoughts give off endorphins that make you feel good about yourself, you generally have the poise to face anything that comes your way. And as a result, you can go out and achieve whatever you set your mind to do.

The problem with people that always have negative thoughts is that they are always overthinking things, and while trying to figure out if they should go-ahead to do it or not, they have missed the opportunity, and most times, the person that gets the opportunity is an optimist.

Better coping skills

It has been shown that optimists are more likely to continue than quit even after failure. Negative thoughts beat you down and lower your confidence even before you try.

When you eventually do try and fail, you become depressed and feel you are not worthy. But then, life does happen and it’s your job to keep trying till you get it.

Moreover, when things don’t go your way, you know it’s okay and that it is part of life, so you dust yourself up, and you continue to forge ahead.

How to always Think Positively

  1. Adopt the habit of gratitude: Instead of looking at your glass as half-empty, try to see it as half full. Be grateful and celebrate little wins. This simple yet effective habit will change your perspective on life, and psychologically, you are positioning yourself for more wins. This is because the mind and body know it will be rewarded if it achieves extraordinary feats, and as a result, you will almost always be at the receiving end of winning.
  1. Surround yourself with positivity: The company you surround yourself with definite influences how you think. You should always try to be around happy people, not gloomy sad and pessimistic ones that always complain about life.
  1. Positive reaffirmations: You should also adopt the habit of saying positive things to yourself. The brain likes hearing compliments to boost its self-esteem no matter where it is coming from. Be your own hypeman.

Conclusion

What we think about ourselves plays a crucial role in shaping the outcome of our lives hence, it is essential we are cautious about how you think of ourselves.

Positive thinking subconsciously positions you for astronomical success, and in addition, you enjoy other benefits like a confidence boost and long life.
