Your Family’s Spring Preparation To-Do List

The spring season upon us calls for some preparation. How can you get your family and home ready for a new season filled with busy school and work schedules, a new line-up of sports, and warmer weather that calls for more family-fun outdoor activities? Utilize this spring preparation to-do list as you get ready for the new season.

House Cleaning

Spring cleaning is a typical task for individuals and families across the country. The spring season calls for a thorough cleaning of your home. Split up the house among your family members. Each person should sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and wipe down their bedroom and another room or two in the home. Have everyone go through their belongings and put clothes, shoes, toys, and other items they don’t wear or use anymore in a donation box that can go to a local Good Will or Salvation Army. This will clear out unnecessary clutter in the home and allow everyone to have a fresh, clean home to start out the new season.

Inspections

Cleaning the home from head to toe should allow you to see what needs fixing or inspection. As spring approaches, it’s a good idea to have your home’s HVAC systems inspected and your home’s air filters swapped out for new, clean ones so everything can run without issues during the warm months. Roof and plumbing system inspections are pretty routine for spring as well. You want to be sure your roof is in good shape and that your plumbing systems don’t have leaks or cracks.

Minor Home Improvements

Consider what minor home improvements your family needs to make. The home improvement market is anticipated to exceed $1120 billion by 2025, so it’s no surprise that families like to make some changes when a new, warmer season approaches. Plus, it’s a good idea to undergo these types of projects in the spring before the hot weather approaches and you’d rather relax and enjoy sunny summer days with your family. Other minor home improvements you may consider include adding handy shelves to the bathrooms, repainting your kitchen, redecorating your living room with spring decor, and purchasing new furniture for your master bedroom. See what changes your children would like to make to their bedrooms. A painting or decorating project may be in your hands!

House Organization

After a thorough cleaning of your home along with necessary inspections and fun home improvement projects, it’s time to get organized. You may find that some rearranging is in order once your home is clean and decluttered. Have your kids go through their bedrooms and bathrooms and organize their belongings. It may be time to swap out winter wardrobes for spring and summer ones and dig out flip-flops, sandals, flats, and spring baseball and softball cleats.

Appointment Scheduling

The physical organization is key to a clean and well-maintained home. However, it’s also important to get your family organized in a different way. Get out your calendar and figure out the best time to book some necessary appointments. Your children may need to visit the doctor for their annual check-up and the dentist for their biannual cleaning. With over 1.25 million deaths in car accidents each year globally, schedule an appointment for a car inspection. It’s best to book these important appointments ahead of time before your family gets swept up in the busyness of spring and the activities that come along with the warm weather.

Consider Some Eco-Friendly Purchases

With the warmer weather approaching, we’re reminded of how beautiful our environment is. Perhaps some eco-friendly purchases are in order. First, consider installing solar panels on your roof, as you’d save a significant amount of energy. Secondly, think about installing new, energy-efficient windows in your home. You’d be surprised with how much energy is lost from windows, doors, and other areas in your home. You could also consider purchasing an electric car. The United States Department of Energy offers a federal incentive program that gives up to $7,500 in federal tax credits for buying an electric vehicle. It’s a much more eco-friendly option compared to a typical vehicle. You can easily implement small purchases in your home, such as reusable bags, energy-efficient lightbulbs, a water filter, and environmentally friendly cleaning and laundry products.

Your home and family need to be ready for spring. You want to enjoy the warm weather the new season offers, so implement the items on this to-do list sooner rather than later. This way, your home will be clean, inspected, organized, and more eco-friendly and your family will be prepared to take on the busy season ahead.
