CCNA certification and the CCNA 200-301 exam

What is CCNA?

CCNA, Cisco Certified Network Associate is a program started to prepare candidates to enter the IT field with knowledge and prior skill. The program makes use of the latest technologies on the basis of the job gaps and provides candidates with CCNA certification that can give them a boost in the IT industry. It is a certification that covers a range of fundamental skills needed in a diversity of IT careers. What is CCNA 200-301?

The Cisco Certified Network Associate 200-301 is a 2-hour long exam required for CCNA certification. This exam covers a range of skills and tests the candidates on network fundamentals, IP connectivity, Network access, IP services, Security fundamentals, Programmability, and Automation. Candidates who have practice in implementing Cisco solutions through the CCNA course can perform well in the test. The exam covers the following topics in the given proportion:

        20% network fundamentals

        20% network access

        10% IP services

        25% IP connectivity

        15% security fundamentals

        10% automation and programmability

The New CCNA 200-301 exam compared to the older versions

Coming into implementation from 24th February, 2020, the new CCNA 200-301 exam showed a drastic change. Earlier, there were several different CCNA exams and certifications that are now replaced with a simple exam that is comprehensive in its scope. This exam covers a wide range of fundamental skills on the basis of new technologies, job roles, and the latest software developmental skills. The earlier exams had various concentration exams including CCNA Cloud, CCNA Data Center, CCNA Routing and Switching, CCNA Wireless, CCDA, and many more, that have all been replaced by the comprehensive CCNA 200-301 exam. Those who possess any of the previous CCNA certifications today are granted the new certificate automatically.

The CCNA 200-301 exam contains 120 questions that cover all of the aforementioned topics in the given weightage. The exam can be taken at any Pearson VUE certification center.

Prerequisites for the exam

There are no mandatory requirements for taking the new exam, although the following are recommended by Cisco:

        Thorough understanding of all the exam topics

        At least a year’s worth of experience of working with Cisco equipment and computer networking.

        Competence in network fundamentals

Today the CCNA 200-301 exam cost amounts to $300.
