As the warmer weather finally starts to move in, it signals a change not only in season but also in your wardrobe. It’s once again time for short-sleeved tops and dresses and shorts. With that said, this is typically the time of year when you become more aware of the condition of your skin, wanting to be sure that it’s well-hydrated and glowing at all times. But what about those stubborn dry patches of skin on your elbows and knees that never seem to respond to your favorite body cream? How can you target those spots effectively and banish the dry skin?
Here’s a look at some ways in which you can address the dry skin patches on elbows and knees and have that skin looking and feeling soft and healthy too.
Time to Adjust How You Shower/Bathe
The first step to remedying the problem is to make some adjustments to how you shower and/or bathe. There are a few changes you can make that will benefit your elbows and knees and help get that dry skin under control.
First of all, you want to be sure you’re not using hot water – warm is perfect. Hot water will just suck all the moisture from your skin. Secondly, you need to keep your shower and bath time brief – 10 minutes maximum. And third, you want to be sure you’re using soap that is gentle, moisturizing, free of fillers and dyes and is as natural as possible. When you do get out of the shower, be sure to pat yourself dry rather than rubbing the skin.
Use a Body Butter or Heavy Cream
Now it’s time to look at the formulation of skincare you are using. If it’s a lotion or a lightweight cream, then it’s likely not providing enough hydration to those dry patches. You want to look for products that are either a thick body butter or a heavy cream so it has substance to it and will get the job done.
Look for CBD Products
Most people are familiar with CBD products and what they can do for your personal health and well-being, but did you know that they can also help with skin health? There has been quite a bit of research carried out which shows that skincare products that contain cannabidiol are able to help with dry skin, inflammation of the skin, and even psoriasis. Just be sure to look for a thick or rich cream that will really sink into the skin and provide that protective barrier your elbows and knees need.
Other Key Ingredients
Some other key ingredients you can look out for that will do an effective job of softening up that dry skin includes shea butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and cocoa butter.
Consistency Will Be Extremely Important
The final tip is to be consistent. Getting that dry skin turned around and feeling soft and moisturised will take a bit of time and require attention on a daily basis until you get there.
Following these tips will help you to achieve healthy, glowing, moisturized skin, even on those stubborn dry patches.
