Father’s Day is nigh, on the third Sunday of June. Although we may try to show dad how much we appreciate him every day of the year, Father’s Day is that special time to honor the dads in our life. But let’s think here…does he really need another “World’s Greatest Dad” mug or another pair of socks? The same tired gifts for dad just won’t work anymore. Heck, he might not even have room to shove another tie in the ‘gifts of Father’s Days past’ drawer!
That’s why we’ve come up with some legit ways to show the dad’s in your life how much you love him on Father’s Day. Whether you’re a daddy’s girl or want to show your love to the father of your kids, these ideas for dad’s are sure to make a statement that says you (and the whole family) care for dear ol’ dad.
The Gift of Time: Sometimes pop needs time out just like the rest of us. Treat him to some peace and quiet to relax and enjoy his special day. Go a step further and do all his chores for him, clean up his work area, and do all the stuff he regularly does so he’s free to savor his solitude.
King of the Yard: If the dad in your life is a self-proclaimed grill-master, then think about sprucing up the backyard for Father’s Day. Cut the grass, clean the deck and tidy everything up. Then add a few special touches, like a fancy-dan, deluxe gas grill with some outdoor cabinets to hold all his BBQ man tools. Introduce some family fun for dad by setting up a cornhole game or a badminton set in the yard. You get the idea. Get him out of the man-cave and make the backyard his new favorite place to hang out.
Memory Lane: Digitize old photos and upload them to an electronic picture frame so he can scroll through all the heartfelt memories of being a dad (or even include memories of his own dad). Alternatively, upload all the dad-moments on his phone onto a computer and make a slideshow video to present to him on Father’s Day. You might also want to spend time with your pop swapping stories like “Remember the time…” that highlight fond memories with the dad in your life. Walking down memory lane with dad is a great way to show you care.
Game On!: If dad is a big sports fan, score some tickets to see his favorite sports team in action. If golf is his game, set up a day at a posh golf course where he can putter to his heart’s content. If sports aren’t his bag, consider having a game night at home. Haul out the board games and treat dad to a raucous fun time over Monopoly or Scrabble.
Shared Interests: Even if the sight of a flopping fish on a hook makes you want to puke, if dad is into fishing, grab the rods and take him on a fishing trip. Or maybe your dad is into guns, spend the day at the rifle range with him. If cars make his motor run, treat him to a day of drooling over classic cars at a vintage auto museum or a classic car show. You see the point. Show pop you care by sharing his interests and hobbies this Father’s Day.
Get Your Camp On: June is known for Father’s Day, but did you know this is also “National Camping Month”? Plan a camping trip for dad on Father’s Day or through the month of June. You’re likely to get some great deals this time of year. Even if dear ol’ dad isn’t a fan of camping, don’t lose hope on the idea. Instead, think about glamping for dad. This is a unique way of camping in style and luxury within the majestic outdoors. Research glamping online and you will be amazed at all the exotic, refined options for pampered camping all around the world. Take the whole family and even invite his side of the family too (if that’s kosher). The goal here is to make this an event to remember for many years to come.
To be sure, father’s who work hard to provide, protect and care for us deserve our love every day of the year. So when Father’s Day arrives, we hope these thoughtful ideas inspire you to recognize the dads in your life and make them feel extra special on their day of honor.
