On average, research shows around 2000 phones are lost every single hour around the world. The amount reaches a considerable number within a day. Every one of us must have faced such a situation in our lives at least once, whether it’s as tiny as misplacing it and not finding it or losing it to a public plan, to even getting it stolen from you. Cell phones are essential nowadays; they are a compact form of your phone, calendar, notes, watch, or simply your device that connects you with the rest of the world.

So, what to do when you’ve lost your mobile device? Well, before we move on to the steps you should take to find your phone. Let’s look at some easy ways that can prepare you for such a situation if it occurs.

Preparation

Turn on “find my device.”

To prepare yourself for such scenarios, make sure that find your device is on; you can do so by going to settings, clicking security and location, and turning on the Find my device option. Of course, you would also need to turn on the location of your cell phone.

Note: Some options might be different depending on the device and model of smartphone you own.

Add alternate information on your lock screen.

Another thing you could do to prepare for such a situation is to add some additional contact information on your lock screen. Researches show the likelihood of you getting your phone back is three times higher if you have this additional information in the case of it getting displaced. For this, you need to open your device’s settings and tap on the lock screen option followed by contact information. Here you can type in a message with your info if someone finds it and has the courtesy to return it.

Now, let’s move on to the finding part of this article. Despite being very vigilant about it, you have lost your phone; let’s see how you can track your android smartphone.

Use Google Maps

You can find your phone by going to Android.com/find. Once you’re there, you need to sign in with your Gmail account and password. This site will show you the approximate location of your phone on the map or, if available, the last place it was on.

From this page, you can opt for further options for your phone. For example, you can select the option of making it ring; this will make your phone ring despite it being silent or even on vibrate. Another option you could go for is locking your device. Furthermore, you can erase your phone’s content with the erase your phone option.

Note: If your phone isn’t connected to a network, this will most probably not work but keep trying. As soon as it connects with a network, your phone would be visible on the map.

Use your phone number

A way to get your lost phone back is to track your phone number. Many sites offer such services, through which you can find the location from your phone number. For this, you need to go to a legitimate site and enter your phone number. You would need to wait until your phone is on for this to work. As soon as it turns on, these sites will point you towards the closest location of your phone.

Besides these, many apps and Bluetooth trackers can help you to find your lost phone. Consider investing in one if you have valuable information you can’t seem to lose in your smartphone.
