Cosmetic surgery is almost always safe and there are very few side effects. When you go with an experienced doctor like cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Brandon Ball, you are in good hands and can expect a normal recovery.

There are some things that you will likely experience after your cosmetic surgery that may be perfectly normal, but you should be aware of. These could be side effects, recovery time or even scars that can influence your decision as to whether or not it’s worth it for you to undergo the surgery.

In this article, we will go over several procedures and what to expect to help you make an informed decision.

Breast surgery

There are two types of plastic surgery under the category of breast surgery. Augmentation, or enlarging the breasts, and reduction, to make them smaller. The side effects are similar for both.

For example, in either case you can expect swelling to occur which can last a few weeks depending on your physiology. It will feel very sensitive and even painful around your breasts during this time.

In both cases, you will also have some scars though how they look and where they will be different. In the case of augmentation there are several areas where the incision will be made so the scars are less visible. When you are getting a reduction, the scars are less able to be hidden as they can pass down the center of the breast. A good surgeon can minimize how much they are visible.

Face lift

Swelling is totally normal and will take at least a few weeks to go down. Depending on the procedure that was done, you may end up with black eyes and bruises where the surgery was done. In some cases the bruising will extend down to your chest even if that wasn’t part of the affected area.

It can take months for you to feel back to normal after the surgery with numb areas and even tingling lasting for quite a while. Doing anything strenuous will need to be put on hold for a few months as the increased blood circulation can cause some throbbing and pain in the area.

Liposuction

Although there are less invasive ways to do body contouring these days, liposuction is still a popular surgery to get instant results. Or, rather, somewhat instant. One of the effects of liposuction is that it takes a while to see the results even though you had pounds of fat removed at once.

Fluid retention and swelling will make the area where the procedure done look fatter than before the procedure. After a few weeks this will go down and you will see good results.

You should expect some bruising as well and discomfort during this period. To reduce the time required normally, you can wear some compression garments. Even though you will feel discomfort for a few weeks, you should be able to get back to work and normal routine within a few days.
