Tips To Keep Your Heart Healthy

A healthy heart is important for everyone, but it’s especially important as we get older. After a lifetime of wear and tear, it’s more important than ever to keep our hearts strong and healthy to avoid congestive heart failure or other heart-related problems. Luckily, we can do plenty of things to keep our hearts in good shape. Here are a few simple tips:

Eat Your Veggies

Eating vegetables are great for you, but did you know that they can be particularly beneficial to your heart? Vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, spinach, kale, and brussels sprouts contain potassium which may lower blood pressure (which is good because high blood pressure can lead to clogged arteries). In addition, green-leafy veggies like lettuce and celery contain calcium which may help prevent calcification of the arteries (which means you won’t have hardened plaques slowly blocking up your heart).

Eat Vegetable Fat

Some of the benefits of vegetables are fat-soluble, which means that you’ll need to eat them with a source of healthy fats like olive oil or avocado to get the full benefits. In addition, when you’re cooking vegetables, eat your veggies with some healthy fats like coconut oil. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which increases levels of good HDL cholesterol and helps remove bad LDL cholesterol from our bodies.

Drink Enough Water

Water is the essential thing we need to survive, and it is so important for so many things, including keeping our hearts healthy. Water flushes out toxins and waste products from the body, making everything work better (including the heart). Drinking plenty of water also keeps blood pressure down and reduces the risk of heart attack or stroke. If you find that drinking plain old water is boring, try adding a slice of lemon to your glass
