I remember telling my mother I was expecting a child, and from then on everything I did, she had something to say about it. You can’t do this, you can’t do that, because it’s not good for the baby. Though my mother meant well, it was a bit annoying to have every action that I made questioned. After all, I had already given up my daily glass of wine, and my love for sushi…what more did she want?
So I decided to reach out to my doctor to find out just how much of what my mother was saying was true, and what I found out was pretty amazing.
1. You Can Drink Coffee
Most moms assume that once you get pregnant you can’t drink any coffee at all. It’s certainly a shame because since you’re always tired during pregnancy, having a cup of joe to bring you back to life would be wonderful. However, after doing some research and talking it over with my doctor, it turns out that you can have coffee (within reason of course). WebMd.com points out that you can drink small moderations of coffee if you’d like. It is ideal that you don’t drink any more than about twelve ounces per day.
2. You Can Exercise Daily
My mother comes from a time where pregnant women stayed off their feet for a better part of their pregnancy. Contrary to popular belief however, you can exercise on the daily basis. As a matter of fact, exercise can help to minimize some of those pregnancy symptoms you’re having including swelling, bloating, and body aches. Not to mention that exercising can help to improve your posture and muscle tone which will come in handy in the delivery room. There are even specialized classes for expectant mothers that teach exercises at a pace that is comfortable for both mom and baby. I personally joined the yoga class for pregnant women as it was a way to relieve stress and improve my flexibility.
3. You Can Take a Trip
Thinking about planning a babymoon? Well if you are, you’ll be pleased to know you don’t have to stay local; it is alright for you to fly during pregnancy; however it is recommended that you try traveling during your second trimester as you won’t feel as nauseous or bloated as you might in your first and third trimesters.
Treasure These Pleasures
Pregnancy is such a wonderful experience (well in most cases). After you get past the morning sickness, body aches, and chronic fatigue you realize just how precious this time in your life is. As you take advantage of the things you can do during pregnancy and the various stages your body goes through, why not consider treasuring these great moments with professional maternity photos? That way, you can always remember the good times you had while carrying your growing baby inside of you.
Well ladies, I hope that the list of things you can do during your pregnancy has brought a smile to your face. I know if I had continued to listen to my mother, I would have ended up sitting in bed until I finally pushed my daughter out. Needless to say, she too was surprised at the things that we could do while pregnant while still caring for our health and the health of our unborn child.
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
