With many people getting used to working from home, it’s a good idea to designate a space in your house for an office. Even if you don’t have a large budget to redecorate or create a home office, here’s a list of easy changes you can make to improve your workspace.
Invest in a Comfortable Chair
Of course, you don’t need to relax as you work, but you need to be comfortable. Investing in an ergonomic chair provides the necessary support for your body to work without negatively impacting your posture. You can also add a cushion or rolled towel to your current chair to increase comfortability and save money in the process. Either way, make sure you give yourself enough lumbar support.
Organize Your Electric Cables
If you need to find a specific plug to reset one of your electronics, it’s exceptionally inconvenient when you can’t find it. Most homes are filled with bunches of tangled cords. A simple way to avoid confusion in your home office is to organize your electric cables. If you have your cords on an extension cord, try color-coding them. For example, you can add a red marker on your laptop charger, a blue marker on your cell phone charger, and so on. If necessary, unplug each cord to make the untangling process safer.
Invest in a Stand or Mount
Whether you’re a travel blogger or using a home office, you need the proper laptop setup. When your laptop isn’t at eye level, you put a strain on your neck muscles. An easy remedy is a laptop stand, also known as risers. Risers are portable, so that you can use a laptop stand at home or any workplace with a flat surface. If you have a wireless keyboard, it’s a good idea to use it while your laptop is on the riser. Otherwise, you can damage your wrists and shoulders.
Add Some Scents to the Room
Since you’ll spend a reasonable amount of time in your home office, you may want to add some pleasant fragrances to your workspace. Certain scents improve both mood and productivity. Keep candles, air fresheners, and wax melts in your home office for some peace and tranquility during a heavy workload.
Use a Soft Light Lamp
You need light to see while you work. You can rely on natural lighting during the day, especially if your workspace is near a window. However, as the sun begins to go down, you’ll need an alternative light source. Studies show that soft light reduces stress and improves mental health. Using soft lights also makes it easier to work on a laptop or computer because it causes less strain on your eyes.
Declutter Your Workspace
No matter where you decide to put your home office, it’s smart to eliminate excess clutter. Clutter is distracting and frequently makes it easy to misplace important items. Before setting up your workspace, thoroughly declutter and clean up. You can set up bins and containers to keep extra items, so you have space to breathe and be productive.
Whether you’re working on the road or in the privacy of your home, you’ll need a designated place to focus and be productive. By keeping your home office organized, using a riser, and creating a posture-friendly environment, you help yourself achieve work goals.
