Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is generally responsible for all the immigration and refugees issues. The body is also known as the Department of Citizenship and Immigration, which was established in 1994. So what they do and how? Let’s dive into it

Constitution:

All of its protocol is built and overlooked by the parliament. The Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship is the key person to maintain its activity. His parliamentary secretary is also in charge of this department. Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship works as the department executive.

Protocol:

IRCC acts following the Citizenship Act, passed in parliament in 1977 and its subsequent up-gradation. However, the Department of Citizenship and Immigration work closely with Public Safety Minister to maintain the act of Immigration and Refugee Protection.

How It Works:

The motto of this department is to build a better Canada for the future. This county promotes the programs and services available for newcomers by the Canadian Govt. By doing so, IRCC attracts newcomers. The Canadian government is interested in taking skilled and educated people and those who can render some special services demanded by the Canadian government.

Moreover, the department helps pilgrims to match with the Canadian lifestyle and furnish their skills. Humanitarian and immigration activities are also included as a part of Humanitarian immigration Canada program, that helps immigrants in very extreme circumstances that need to leave their country. In total, IRCC works to build better Canadian communities with a vision to create a stable economic backbone as well as a better culture. The federal government shared the responsibilities of immigrants with provincial and territory governments and commissions.

Before 1947, when the Neutralization Act lifted-up, people who were born in Canada was considered a citizen.  Later the Act of Citizenship was passed, and this is the final rule which upholds the pride of Canadians.

Citizenship Act:

This act was passed in the Canadian parliament do define Canadian citizens properly and to distinguish them. According to this, 4 types of people are Canadian. They are-

  1. British people who were born in Canada or acquired Canadian domicile or live in Canada for 20 years before 1947
  2. People who granted the certificate of naturalization
  3. Children born to a Canadian father with matrimony, or to a Canadian mother without wedlock
  4. Married women to Canadian men who entered Canada as a landed immigrant before 1947

Immigrants & Refugees:

Immigrants are those who choose to settle permanently in Canada. However, Canada only takes immigrants who have skills. Mostly they are economic immigrants. On the other hand, family class applicants are sponsored by spouses or relatives.

Refugees are people who seek protection outside their country. Some of them leave war zones, whereas others leave their country because of danger due to their religious or political belief or sexual orientation.

Screening Procedure:

After applying for a visa, the Canadian consular check and approve these, the officers will scrutinize documents and histories of applicants. During screening sessions, the following things are checked.

  1. The foreigner does not act as a threat to Canadian society. And of course, they must have a good health position, so they do not create a burden on the national health system.
  2. The foreigner did not have a criminal past that means s/he should not make any serious crime or violate any international rules. Canadian police take care of these issues. If anything seemed suspicions, they are referred to either CBSA (Canadian Border Service Agency) or CSIS( Canadian Security Intelligence System). They search for any threat to the Canadian community through interviews and investigations. If any danger found, they reject the applicant and the following procedures are cancelled.

It may take years to attain a permanent resident visa.

For refugees, IRCC has made 2 categories.

  • Resettle refugees and
  • asylum refugees.

Resettle refugees apply from abroad. But for asylum seekers, the process starts either at CBSA office or either at any screening office. Resettled refugees have to be referred to Canada by designated organizations. And applicants have to go through in-depth face to face interviews.

Not only the citizens but also the immigrants and refugees get some of these facilities. So, people from abroad want to move to Canada, but Canada does not take all of them.
