The State Fair of Texas is a 24-day party like only Texas can throw! Come enjoy a whopping 277 acres of entertainment, rides, livestock, concerts, football in the Cotton Bowl and an insane assortment of deep-fried food.
There’s so much to see and do, starting with the historic Fair Park itself. Built for the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition, the buildings comprise an impressive collection of Art Deco architecture. Buildings include the Hall of State (featuring Texas history), the Museum of Science & Nature and the Dallas World Aquarium.
Getting Around
The Fair’s website is a great place to start. It lists all the shows, concerts and other events going on every day. Use the downloadable map to plan your fun. You won’t be able to see everything in a day, so find out about season passes and combo passes.
Big Tex
This 55-foot talking cowboy has presided over the fair since 1952. You can’t get lost as long as you say “Meet me at Big Tex.”
The Midway
Sure there are loads of educational exhibits, but it’s the 70-plus rides on the Midway that delight everyone. The 212-foot Texas Star Ferris wheel and the 500-foot Top O’ Texas Tower offer breathtaking views. If heights aren’t your thing, try the elegant 1914 Dentzel Carousel.
Auto Show
This big event for car lovers features new models from all the major car companies, plus trucks, concept cars and beautifully restored classics.
Incredible Food
Every year, vendors compete to invent the wildest deep-fried foods. Even jaded foodies line up for deep-fried delights: Pumpkin Spice Oreos, Sriracha Balls, Amazeballs and milk and cookies on a stick. But don’t miss the favorite that started it all, Fletcher’s Corny Dogs. A hot dog is skewered, dipped in a thick cornmeal batter, deep-fried, and slathered with mustard.
Livestock Exhibitions
See real Texas longhorns up close and personal — just don’t try to hop on for a ride. And make sure to visit the exotic chickens and fluffy bunny rabbits.

I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
