In the book Bright Stanley by Matt Buckingham, children go on an adventure with Stanley as he looks for his school of fish. Your children can make their own Bright Stanley to enjoy these adventures with, using just a paint chip and a few basic crafting supplies. Take a look below at how we created our own Bright Stanley Paint Chip Puppets, perfect for enjoy the book with.
Here is what you will need:
Orange paint chips (free at hardware and retail stores)
Wood craft sticks
Green felt or paper
Googly eyes
Black marker
Craft glue
We found everything we needed at our local dollar store.
Directions:
1. Begin by cutting your fish shape out of the paint chip. We free handed ours with pencil and then cut out it. A simple oval with a triangle tail works great.
2. Create the face of your fish. Add the googly eye with a drop of craft glue, and use your marker to make a mouth.
3. Apply some glue to the back of the paint chip fish and press it to the top of your craft stick. Hold it in place to dry.
4. Fringe a few pieces of green felt or paper. Glue the pieces to the bottom of your fish to look like seaweed.
Your Bright Stanley Paint Chip Puppet is now ready to be enjoyed. Put on your own Bright Stanley puppet show or just use the puppet to act out the book as you enjoy it together. Either way, it is sure to add an extra element of fun to your reading adventures!
Gather your supplies and give this fun and super duper frugal Bright Stanley themed kid’s craft a try. It is the perfect way to explore the text further and enjoy some family friendly hands on fun.
