Sometimes, we don’t care for the items that make our life easier every day, and one such example is that of a dishwasher. We forget that machines require proper maintenance to perform better.
What is important now is to be aware of the common dishwasher mistakes so that it is possible to avoid them in the long run. While reading a GE dishwasher repair manual will give you the best idea of maintaining the machine properly, here is a brief list of mistakes to avoid while operating a dishwasher daily.
What are the common dishwasher mistakes to avoid?
Dishwasher detergent
If you thought that using a dishwasher is enough, you must also understand that you must also use it properly. There is a set of directions for using dishwasher detergent that ensures better performance of the machine.
For example, several users feel that adding an extra scoop of detergent means they will clean better. It is a wrong concept because using excess detergent may leave a layer of the same on all the dishes, which is undesirable. Therefore, you must use a proper detergent and in the best way, of course.
Overfilling
It is essential to maximize space while using a dishwasher. However, it is a common mistake that users end up overcrowding the dishwasher instead. Now, there is two primary disadvantage of doing so.
Firstly, the dishes don’t clean well, and you may find food bits stuck on them after they come out of the machine.
Secondly, the dishwasher contents may break because they are constantly bumping into each other while the cleaning is in progress. Therefore, you must ensure that there is enough space between dishes for better cleaning.
Excess food on the dishwasher contents
Earlier, dishwashers were not so advanced, so there was the need to prewash dishes before putting them into the machine. That is not the case anymore, and with advancements in technology, dishwashers are now capable of removing food residue in the best way.
However, that does not mean that you can leave leftover food on the dishes when you put them into the dishwasher for cleaning. You must scrape leftover food from plates before they go in for the final washing.
Dishwasher safe items only.
When you have an extremely efficient dishwasher at home, there is a chance that you may not want to clean any items manually. However, that is a dangerous idea because you should only put dishwasher-safe items into the machine.
For example, utensils made of wood, cast iron, copper, and very delicate glass are not meant for the dishwasher. It would be best if you washed them separately. You must know that wood may crack and split due to the high water temperature inside the dishwasher. Moreover, delicate glassware may break and create an additional mess. The cast iron and copper items may damage the machine or vice versa if you try to clean them inside a dishwasher.
While these are the most common mistakes to avoid, there are several other points such as proper utensil arrangement, water level, proper unloading, and more that you must take care of when using a dishwasher regularly.
