Make Your Home Brighter

Since lack of sunlight is the largest culprit for your winter blues, find a way to light up the home brighter than ever before. With products like the Happy Light where you can turn it on for a few moments of natural light via a lamp on a daily basis, there’s no reason to sit in the dark. Consider replacing various lightbulbs in your home so that you are living in a brighter environment to easily help shift away from winter blues.

Eat Healthier

While you don’t have to get going on some major health eating binge, try to remove sugars and carbohydrates from your diet as much as possible during the onset of winter blues. Sugar and carbohydrate-based foods give a false sense of euphoria and then a huge crash and burn with anxiety and depression being triggered. Items like chocolate and foods rich in Omega-3’s will surely help keep you eating healthier and your emotions steady.

Get Outside

Surely you won’t want to go outside in freezing cold temperatures, but during those nicer winter days try to get outside and take a short walk. Perhaps just walk around your yard for a bit. Incorporating some form of outside exercise will help combat winter blues. Whatever you do, when the temperature is tolerable get outside and move around. Being outside with fresh air can do wonders for the soul and help when dealing with winter blues.

Wear Bright Colors

Something as simple as switching up your wardrobe colors could help deter those winter blues from taking over completely. Try to select brighter clothing options during the winter season to offset the dreary, dark months of winter. It’s amazing what a simple color change will do subconsciously to your mind. Go ahead and get shopping, give yourself permission to get a few brighter clothing options in the name of dealing with winter blues.
