Enhancing Your Home Security with Locks

Sharing is caring!

Home security should always be a priority in a world where crime is on the rise. The good thing is that there are many door locks that you can choose from.

Whether you want it for exterior or interior use, there are functional locks in the market and a quick search in your local hardware will show you what options you have available.

But before you set foot into any store or call your reliable and trusted locksmith, such as these guys, you should educate yourself first. Read on below to do just that.

Privacy Lockset

If security is not what you need most, you can go for a privacy lockset. This is an interior option that enhances privacy.

These locks have an outside and an inside knob or lever. You cannot open it with a key from the outside. For privacy while inside the room, you lock it using a button on the inside knob.

Deadbolt Lock

If security is a priority, it is highly recommended that you go for deadbolt locks. This is due to their effectiveness.

You can either choose double-cylinder or single-cylinder deadbolts.

If you have a wood or solid metal door, a single-cylinder deadbolt will be an excellent option. From the inside, you operate it using a button while from the outside, you use a key.

On the other hand, if you want to secure a glass door, a double-cylinder deadbolt will be an ideal option. It is operated using a key from both the inside and the outside.

Night Latch

Night latch is also another way you can enhance door security in your home. This is of course if you are working on light security or you want to boost an already secured door.

This latch is installed on the surface of the door from the inside and comes with an automatic locking mechanism.

Once the door is shut, the latch automatically locks it. You will not need a key to manually lock it.

Passage Lockset

Privacy may not be a priority but you still want to secure your closets and hallways doors. This is where passage locksets come in handy.

They can either be knobs or levers that come with a non-locking mechanism. The knobs are installed on the inside and the outside of the door.

Keyless Entry System

This is a popular option for many as it eliminates the need for a physical key. All you have to do is to remember the passcode given.

They offer a more advanced security system and have useful numerous features. For example, they may have visual and audio indicators. This will alert you when the lockset is activated.

Besides this, they come with an anti-theft rolling code feature. This means that the programmed codes cannot be used by two people. Everyone that is allowed into the home must have their own.

If you forget your passcode or someone uses a wrong one thrice trying to get access, it will sound an alarm.

Entry Lockset

This type of lock comes with two doorknobs, a dead latch, and offers medium security. It makes it possible to lock the door from both the outside and the inside with some using a key.

Enhancing your home security should be a priority. This will help in deterring the would-be burglars.

Using entry locksets, keyless entry systems, night latches, and passage locksets, you will be boosting your home security.
