Florida has many fun things to do, and it makes planning a family road trip a bit difficult. You want to see as much as you can while keeping the kids entertained, but where should you go first? While that decision is up to you, we wanted to help you plan your road trip by collecting some of the most fun and beautiful places to visit.

In between the fun, you’ll need to drive carefully from one destination to the next. Unfortunately, while you’re cautious, not every driver on the road today is. If you end up in a DUI accident as you travel through Miami, Florida, there is help available.

Legoland

If you and your kids enjoy everything Lego, then you have to visit Legoland. You can walk around and see incredible Lego sculptures, watch the array of shows, and even enjoy one of the many resorts in the evening. There are plenty of rides to enjoy, from the Ford Driving School to Lost Kingdom Adventure and so much more.

If you prefer water parks, then you’ll find yourself suiting up to relax and build rafts in the lazy river, sliding down the Twin Chasers, or having fun with the younger ones in the DUPLO Splash Safari. Of course, you also have to at least browse the Lego stores as well, where you can find Lego sets through the ages, from fire trucks and whole towns to more niche options like Lego Friends, Bionix, and Ninjago. There’s something for Lego fans of all ages to enjoy in Legoland.

Florida Caverns

While it may not be as hands-on as some of the attractions at Legoland, the Florida Caverns are still a site to see and worth a visit. Various camping amenities are available for you and your horses if you’d like to enjoy a horse trail.

Of course, there are plenty of trails for biking and walking as well. You could also swim, boat, or canoe in the surrounding waters for those who simply can’t get enough of the beautiful lakes, and if you’re a bit more tech-savvy, you’ll appreciate the various Geocaching opportunities abound.

The main attraction here, however, are the cave tours. You’ll view many stalactites and stalagmites as your tour guide directs you through the ancient cave, and educates you on not just caves in general but also the history of these caverns and so much more. If you’re lucky, you may even see a few bats.

Big Cypress National Park

If you prefer your excitement to be found above ground, then you’ll want to check out the Big Cypress National Preserve. This national park preserves a swamp that is not only essential to the nearby Everglades, which is another national park worth visiting, but is also essential to the environment of Florida itself—the swamp leads to an estuary, where fresh and saltwater meet.

The wildlife that inhabits these areas is unique and are diligently protected thanks to the efforts of the National Park Service. When you visit, you’ll be able to admire the massive trees growing from the swamp waters from the hiking trails, an offroad vehicle, or a canoe or kayak.

Park rangers are more than happy to lead you through hikes and many other activities. Then, once the sun begins to set, you can return to a campsite and enjoy the beautiful view of the night sky.

Beaches of Destin

The beaches of Destin are perfect for people who love to have fun in the sun. Here, you can relax and sunbathe while your children build white sandcastles. The sand found on Destin’s many beaches is white due to the particles of quartz carried from the Appalachian Mountains to the Gulf of Mexico by the Apalachicola River.

This bright sand contrasts beautifully with the deep blue color of the ocean to create a truly unforgettable sight. While all beaches allow you to swim and play in the sand at your leisure, some also have extra amenities such as picnic tables, restrooms, showers, and playgrounds, just to name a few. A few even have a few special activities to enjoy.

The Henderson beach not only provides restrooms and picnic pavilions; it also offers beach wheelchairs and grills. If you’ve ever dreamed about camping on the beach, this is the place to do it, as it also offers campsites.

While they may not be on the sand, they’re pretty close and let you enjoy the comforts of an RV and the view of the ocean at the same time. If you want to stretch your legs, you can find hiking trails between Henderson Beach State Park and James Lee Park.

Universal Studios

If you enjoy movies such as Shrek and Harry Potter, then you’ll more than likely love the various offerings on display at the Universal Orlando Resort. Here, you can walk around and meet some of the most iconic characters from the movies, such as Shrek and Donkey from the Shrek films, and even the Minions from the Despicable Me and Minion movies.

Feel free to walk around the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and feel like a true wizard as you explore Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. If you’re feeling brave, consider delving into the Gringotts vaults or hop on a bike and enjoy Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.

Enjoying Everything That Florida Has To Offer

There’s more than just rides and characters to enjoy here—there are many themed resorts to stay in for when you’re exhausted from all of the fun and many unique dining experiences to enjoy.

If you’re interested in a more unique aesthetic than what you may have expected to find, then head over to the Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and Savory Feast Kitchen, and if you can’t get enough Harry Potter, then the Leaky Cauldron or Three Broomsticks are waiting for you.

It may have surprised you to see that we didn’t discuss Disney World, but that’s for good reason. Disney World is probably the first place you think of when you consider visiting Florida, but we wanted to showcase a few of the other fun things you can explore during your trip.

Even if parks like Legoland and Universal don’t interest you, you’ll find something that the whole family will enjoy from the many beaches and beautiful national and state parks found in the Sunshine State.
