Guide to Alpaca Clothing

Sharing is caring!

Alpacas are cute and gentle animals, known for being good friends with cats and dogs. The fibre from the hair of these herd animals is used to produce luxurious fashionable clothing. What’s not to love!

Why choose Alpaca clothing

I would choose Alpaca clothing because it’s excellent quality, lightweight and soft but still strong. It doesn’t contain Lanolin, so It’s very good for sensitive skin. It’s said to be very comfortable because it’s insulated but breathable, meaning it’s perfect to wear in hot or cold temperatures. Also, Alpaca fibre comes in a wide variety of natural colours. so you won’t need to dye it.

It’s wonderful to know that it’s sustainable. biodegradable resources and providing Alpaca hair for sale is an important source of income for Peruvian families. Belonging to the fair trade market means the producers and textile workers are paid fairly.

Things to consider when buying:

There are lots of considerations worth taking into account when buying these products. Here’s my Alpaca clothing guide:

Types of wool

Before you buy. It’s important to know that there’s three different types of Alpaca wool available. Alpaca Fleece. Baby Alpaca and Royal Alpaca. Alpaca Fleece is the fibre produced from the once yearly shearing. The Baby Alpaca Fibre comes from the first-ever shear of an Alpaca and Royal Alpaca is from the finest Alpaca Fibre.

Clothing Care

The clothes need a little extra care to wash and dry but it’s not as bad as you’d think. If you dry them carefully. make sure they’re completely dry before being put away and store them properly out of season. they will last for years and maintain their original quality.

What to buy

Which Alpaca product do you want to buy? Real Baby Alpaca wool is harder to find – it’s much softer. won’t itch at all and will be more expensive than Alpaca fleece.

A lot of the cheaper Alpaca clothing available is a mix of alpaca wool and synthetic fibres. If you want to tell what product you are buying. use your senses! Real Alpaca wool is very smooth and cold to touch. It will have a neutral scent because it doesn’t absorb smells and will be soft and not scratchy. Scratchy is a bad sign! If you’re riot sure. try it on.

Alpaca wool looks luxurious. shiny and is heavier than synthetic fibres. It’s also hair rather than wool so it doesn’t shed easily – touch it and see!

Where to buy

When you’re looking to make a purchase consider whether you’re looking for handmade or machine-made and know this will affect where it can be bought and the price.

It isn’t cheap but shouldn’t be extortionate either! You’re looking for affordable quality.

When shopping. ask questions and find out more details if you’re not sure. Asking questions will make it look like you know what you’re buying and therefore can’t be ripped off. When shopping online. It’s good to know there are certificates available for Alpaca clothing. which guarantee the quality of the garments. Definitely worth looking out for.

Most importantly. If you’re not sure, trust your common sense and instinct! Even better. get recommendations from family and friends.
