Halt and Enjoy: 6 Me-Time Ideas for the Always Busy Mommy

Sharing is caring!

Raising children is a full-time job, but we, women are expected to do it all as well as maintain some semblance of a social life and a work life too! It’s really hard to find five minutes to ourselves, so often we go without. However, if you get a little creative, there’s actually more time in the day that you realize, and you can commandeer some of that for yourself in the following ways.

  1. Hit a gym that has a crhe

For some new moms, one of the most ignored aspects of our overall well-being is our fitness levels. Giving birth takes such a toll on our bodies that it’s never too early to start getting ourselves back to our former levels. However, it’s hard to fit the gym in when you have your kids around. Did you know that a lot of gyms offer crèche services? By taking advantage of this service you can not only get a few hours a week to yourself, but you can also low key work through some of your new-mom frustrations with an intense personal training session.

  1. Start a new hobby

You have more time than you realize, even though you think your kids are sucking the life right out of you at all times. If you’re getting bored with the monotony of stay at home mom-ing, then try to start a hobby that can keep you entertained while you’re at home. If you want to learn how to brew your own beer, read this page. Or, if food is more your thing, you could become a master baker. There are no limits to the possibilities.

  1. Take a long way home

If you have things to do that you just can’t avoid, make them more interesting. Your weekly trip to the grocery store will become so much more appealing if you take a long way home. Go out of your way. Stop by a park. Drive along the river. Turn your chore into something leisurely.

  1. Have some time out on the commode

Okay, this one sounds weird, but stay with me. Everyone needs to use the bathroom, even moms. You can take these moments and turn them into your own. Take a few minutes longer and just hang in the bathroom with your phone. Scroll through your news feed. Check out some memes and make yourself laugh. Ignore the little fingers that appear under the door – they are just trying to lure you out!

  1. Have a girls night out

The first girls night out you have after becoming a mom is going to feel weird, but trust me when I say that you really need these nights! You don’t have to try and justify it to anyone. Your soul will be happier and you’ll feel much more human when you have your girlfriends around you. Not only that but you’ll have actual adults to talk to as well.

  1. Savor nap times

You’ve probably heard the old adage, “nap when the baby naps.” But I am here to tell you that this advice is all backward. When your baby naps, it’s your time to shine! You can finally put your feet up and watch that episode you’ve been saving for days. You can finally get that chocolate from the top shelf of the cupboard and you don’t have to share it with anyone. This time is yours!Taking “me time” shouldn’t have to make you feel selfish. In fact, keeping a balance between the many facets of your life makes you a happier, more well-rounded person. If you’re creative, you can find ways to squeeze more out of each day, despite the constant complaining and sibling fights you have to ensure on the daily. In the end, it’s all worth it, so take the time when you can get it.
