Who would ever think that the simplest things you can find in your home could be hazardous to your health and family’s health? This is something very alarming, that everyday household items that can be hazardous are actually used quite frequently. You have to make sure you stop using them as soon as possible once you’ve learned the negative effects that can happen, making you regret ever thinking of buying them. So, here are 7 hidden dangerous things that you should stop using at home.
Stop cooking with non-stick appliances and cookware
This came as a shock because a lot of people love these non-stick items; they save you such a hassle when cooking or washing the dishes. But sadly, you must throw away non-stick pans for the sake of your health and those around you. These items are coated with Polytetrafluoroethylene which has the non-stick properties, but it releases harmful gasses when it gets heated. Studies have shown that it can put us at higher risk for detrimental health conditions and possibly cancer.
Throw antibacterial products away
It’s a shame because this was all the craze when they first came out, but the damage it can cause is too much to take the risk. If you’re using antibacterial soap, toothpaste, or even cleaning products, then you should stop immediately. This can be extremely harmful and might cause a lot of different diseases.
Be careful with extension cords
The cord itself isn’t dangerous to our health personally, but it can lead to terrible fires if they’re used incorrectly. You should never keep them under your carpets or too close to furniture; you need to understand that high levels of voltage are involved with the capacity it provides. If you link that with old or worn-out cables/cords plus flammable furniture, then this can be one of the riskiest items to have in your home.
No more mothballs
These products are very useful for protecting your clothes and other fabrics, but sadly they can’t protect us or our pets from its bad side-effects. They are made out of Naphthalene and it was proven that it can destroy a lot of red blood cells that our pets can develop cancer. Even though we lose some ourselves, it was never proven to cause cancerous effects to humans just yet. But if your pets get sick, then it’s more than enough reason to stop using it.
Scented candles are not safe
These products aren’t as safe as you might think, especially if you have little children running around. They might have soothing properties and excellent smells, but some of these smells might seem as if it’s edible and that’s not the case at all. These candles have toxic chemicals inside them if they’re digested; it produces toxic toluene and carcinogens benzene to be exact when it’s burning. So, never try and eat them no matter how good they smell and keep them away from your kids.
Check your houseplants
Even though green plants are perfect for regulating the air and inducing that soothing feeling the lessens any stress, some plants are not so safe to you or your kids. If you have Philodendron or Dieffenbachia plants at home, then you should get rid of them and replace them with safer plants. They have microscopic crystals and oxalates; It can cause inflammation and extreme pain if they somehow get sprinkled on your food or drinks randomly from the wind.
Say goodbye to air fresheners
This has to be one of the worst revelations ever because we all use air fresheners every day! But unfortunately, they produce toxins that can build up in our bodies over time. These toxins were proven to affect our hormone levels and tamper with our reproductive health, these conditions might seem mild for adults, but they are still bad; they are even worse for children. So, you better think twice before buying another air freshener.If some of these items were being used almost every day, then don’t worry too much about getting sick. Just start by stopping it and you should be fine, if you feel alright then you’re probably okay. Just make sure that you, your kids, and the rest of your family stays safe from now on and inform all your loved ones about the dangers of these items.
