Home Safety Concerns In Winter

Sharing is caring!

During winter, there can be lots of things on your mind. You and your family can get sick, and you don’t want to have to deal with home safety concerns on top of it. Today I am sharing a few things to think about before it gets below freezing out and you’re dealing with bigger issues.

Furnace Dies

There’s nothing worse than your furnace going out in the dead of winter. Thank God for furnace repair companies. Before winter hits, it’s always a good idea to have a tune-up done to make sure your furnace is in tip-top shape for the cold temperatures.

Furnace Filters

Speaking of your furnace, make sure to clean out your filters. Ours get a good spray down since they’re reusable, but if you need to go out and buy new ones, make sure to do so.

Water Pipes Freezing

A common thing that happens in winter is frozen pipes. Make sure you take the necessary steps to prevent this from happening. Especially on pipes located near exterior walls, which get the coldest.

Clean Out Gutters

You don’t want to be stuck cleaning out gutters full of leaves in January, so clean them out before it gets too cold so they don’t get frozen. That ice and water build-up can cause damage to your gutters and roof – one of the last things you want to happen.

Utility Equipment

If you have outside meters for electricity and/or water, do not forget to keep them clear. This can easily be done by using a broom. Make sure to never, ever use a heat source to melt ice or snow. This can ruin the equipment and start a fire.

What other things would you add to this list? Feel free to share them in the comments!
