There are two things that generally link all skin care processes; the need to keep skin healthy and wanting to look good. So, you may think that if these apply to skin care throughout the world that all countries have the same approach; that isn’t true. You have to remember that even the idea of looking good differs, depending on where you live in world.
In the US, and to an extent the UK, there is a lot of emphasis on tanning, the use of make-up and the reduction of wrinkles. In Japan there is a general wish to keep a youthful appearance, whereas in China a white complexion is much sought after. In central European countries, such as France and Germany, there tends to me a more natural approach to beauty.
Natural but stylish in Europe
The French have always had a reputation for being stylish. They always look really comfortable in what they wear and very at ease with themselves, which gives an overall sense of elegance. This carries over to their skin, and the care of it.
They believe in simple protection against the sun and moisturising to keep their skin looking fresh and clean but natural. This natural approach is popular across central Europe, including Germany where the cleanksin website offers assistance to people who want to look after their skin.
The need for a smooth skin in the US
It’s not just women in the US who want to keep the wrinkles at bay, but in the home of Hollywood there is a lot of emphasis on trying to halt the ageing process. You can’t believe everything you read about anti-wrinkle creams, and they certainly don’t have as noticeable an effect as treatment such as Botox.
Overall, it’s probably a lot easier to accept that wrinkles do eventually happen to everyone, and that you should concentrate on keeping them at bay for as long as possible by making sure that your skin is moisturized regularly and that you protect yourself from the effects of the sun.
The Japanese quest for youth
In Japan, women are also obsessed with keeping their youthful looks, but they tend to try and prevent problems rather than solve them. They protect themselves from the sun and they stick to strict regimes of a variety of creams to try and stem the tide of time. In another Asian country, China, many women crave a white complexion and skin whitening procedures are common.
You can see that the idea of beauty varies from country to country. In central Europe there is more concentration on a natural look, no matter what your age, as opposed to the US and Japan where the effects of ageing are looked on as something that should be avoided as much as possible. Then there’s China where the colour of the face is considered important. Skin care procedures across the globe do have some things in common, but they are always going to have noticeable differences for as long as the definition of beauty is so variable.
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
Since we now have access to the world, through the internet, I think the English girls/UK, seem to have the prettiest skin.
I never realized that where you live made so much difference. I thank you for enlightening me.
this is really interesting, i am not a typical american, i jsut do water and soap lol
I was very interested in hearing about the different kinds of skincare throughout the world. I think in Canada, we are most interested in keeping our skin moisturized…due to the cold winters.
