McDonald’s Corporation, or the popular McD, is a famous American fast-food company founded in 1948 by Maurice and Richard McDonald in San Bernardino, California. The brand is one of the largest food chains in the world that are renowned for their hamburgers.
Origin
In 1917, Ray Kroc, a 15-year-old boy, had lied about his age to get the opportunity to join Red Cross as an ambulance driver. However, the war had ended before his training got completed. Since then, he started working as a piano player, a paper cup salesman and a Multimixer salesman. The McDonald brothers had bought appliances for their small hamburger restaurant from Ray Kroc, who was intrigued by their need for eight malts and shake mixers.
In 1954 he visited the small shop as he was amazed by the effectiveness of their operation and wanted to see how a small shop can sell so many milkshakes. He then discovered a simple, efficient format that permitted the brothers to produce vast quantities of food at low prices. The small shop produced a limited menu, concentrating on very few items like burgers, fries and beverages. Due to their limited service, they could focus on quality and quick service.
The shop sold basic hamburger at 15 cents, about half the price of their competitors. As the shop offered the self-service idea, they had no need for waiters and waitresses. The customers would get their orders in no time as the food was prepared beforehand, wrapped and kept under heat lamps.
The McDonald’s brother then thought for a new franchising agent, and Kroc saw an opportunity. He accepted to franchise the shop and then opened the first McDonald’s franchise, the McDonald’s System, Inc., a predecessor of the McDonald’s Corporation, in 1955 in Des Plaines, Illinois. Almost six years later, they bought the exclusive rights to the McDonald’s name and operating system.
The shop by 1958 had already sold their 100 millionth hamburger. By the end of the decade, McDonald’s outlets top 1,000. Due to their steady growth, the company’s stock began trading publicly in 1965. In 1963, the company introduced their clown, Ronald McDonald, and the double-arch “m” symbol became McDonald’s most enduring logo in 1962.
Global Recognition
Gradually, the fast-food chain continued to expand not only domestically but also internationally. It reached Canada in 1967, reaching a total of 10,000 restaurants by 1988. The chain started operating more than 35,000 outlets in more than 100 countries in the early 21st century. The rapid growth of McDonald’s was so swift in 1990 that a new shop opened somewhere across the globe every five hours.
The chain became one of the most popular family restaurants that emphasized affordable food, fun, and flavours that appealed to children and adults. Moreover, while enjoying your food at McDonald’s, you may play several games such as Gacha Life or Fortnight and enjoy the meal simultaneously with your family. Apart from their famous hamburgers, the brand was recognized for its other products and symbols as well like the Big Mac (1968), the Egg McMuffin (1973), Happy Meals (1979), and Chicken McNuggets (1983). Further, towards the late 20th century, McDonald’s moved beyond the hamburger business introducing Chipotle Mexican Grill (1998), Donatos Pizza (1999), and Boston Market (2000) in the United States. In 1999, the company bought Aroma Cafe (1999) and interest in Pret A Manger (2001), a sandwich restaurant chain.
Due to the rise of the internet, the company now allows its users to access their Wi-Fi. Every outlet worldwide permits its customers to access their internet by providing them with their McDonalds WIFI login.
