How often should a home be inspected for pests?

It’s something that homeowners dread; the infestation of their property by pests. It can be a real nuisance; and don’t be fooled into thinking if you have a newly built property you have just moved into you don’t need to worry. The bottom line is that if you have property, you can have a pest invasion.

If you are living in Texas you may have come face to face with pests in the past, and received advice from a professional, like other exterminators in Austin. Professional exterminators have the knowledge and experience to be able to advise on how often you should have your home inspected, but there is some general information that might help.

Wouldn’t you already know if you have pests?

This is one question you might ask yourself; surely it would be obvious if you had a problem with pests in your home. Sometimes it is, you may be able to see the visual evidence, such as droppings, or you may encounter the pests themselves. However, some pests are nocturnal, and you may not actually be aware that they are sharing your home.

This is why it’s important to get your home checked for pests at least once a year. The professionals can call out to your property and spend time completing an in depth examination of your home, including your yard, crawlspace and attic. If no pests are present, the exterior of your home can be treated to deter them from entering.

What if pests are found in your home?

If a routine inspection reveals some unwanted house guests then you are going to be very happy that you had it carried out in the first place. Once the problem has been identified then it can be treated. Often you will be advised to have ongoing bi-monthly services to get rid of the pests, and keep your home protected. The frequency with which services are required is variable; it can often depend on the location of your home.

For instance, if the pest control experts are dealing with a relatively common pest, such as a cockroach, in an area where there is low pest density, then a bi-monthly service, or even a quarterly one, may be sufficient. On the other hand, there are some pests which are more difficult to control, and a monthly service may be appropriate. Qualified and certified pest exterminators can advise you on the best treatment program in your circumstances.

You can see why it’s important to have your home checked for pests at least every twelve months; it means that an undiscovered problem can be dealt with as soon as possible. However, if you have any sense that you may have a problem with pests you should get your home checked straight away; no matter when the last routine check was carried out.
