3. Lady Pepperell House

This time of the year is made for spending time with your loved ones in the comfort of your home. If you don’t have a home to call “yours” yet, then you may be starting to think about looking for a house. A common time to start house hunting is in the spring, when it starts to warm up, but it’s a good idea to come up with a budget now. You want to make sure you stay within your budget so you don’t put yourself between a rock and a hard place. Below are a few tips to help you stay within a budget so you can get your own home!

  • Make sure you realize that with your loan on your home, there are interest rates. You can’t forget this. You have to make sure you budget for this.
  • Use a mortgage calculator to figure out the interest rate that would be best for you, as well as how much property tax and insurance is. This will help you immensely to find what price house you can afford.
  • If you want to buy a house that may need a little work, make sure you budget for that, too. You don’t want to be stuck with a house that may need a new roof and not be able to afford it – it will just lead to bigger problems down the road.
  • Make sure to put your budget down on paper. Put it in a place where you see it every day, like the refrigerator. Seeing it is a reminder that you are trying to make a big step in your life and maybe you won’t buy those extras that you think you “need.” Also, maybe for a reminder while you’re out, put a sticky note in your wallet or on the sun visor of your car. Those are other great places to remind you of what you really want and need in life.

Those are just a few tips on how to budget when you’re looking to buy a house. Do you have any tips to add?
