How To Decorate A Small Kitchen

A small kitchen.

For kitchens, bigger is not always better. Small kitchens are typically more efficient spaces than bigger ones, for one thing. Plus, you don’t need a huge kitchen to have a beautiful, well-designed space; all you need are some clever tricks to make the most out of the space you have. Read on to find out more.

Make It Lighter

If you want to make any room – including your kitchen – feel bigger, paint it a light color. If you like how dark your cabinets look and don’t want to change the color, add different kinds of lighting instead. Use lighting under the cabinets to make the work area brighter and to show off your cabinets. No matter what color the kitchen is, good lighting makes it look bigger. Try some of these ways to light the room:

  • Light up your counter space by putting LED strip lights on shelves and under cabinets. Just peel, stick, and plug them in.
  • Replace old incandescent light bulbs with new ones that use less energy.
  • Choose pendant lights that can be added to existing track lighting.
  • Add a mirror or think about putting up a mirrored backsplash to bounce light around the room.

You can also brighten the walls by painting them light green, blue, or yellow. This is a quick way to update a small kitchen. Then, paint the walls and doors of all the cabinets the same color. As our eyes move around a room, colors that stay the same can make it look bigger than it is, while colors that change quickly can make our eyes think the room is smaller.

Hang Things Up

Get ideas from some of the bustling restaurant kitchens, which store their tools on industrial wall racks and hardware. Some ideas for how to hang tools and utensils:

  • Use hanging racks for utensils. Tools with a loop or hole can be held by a bar with hooks.
  • Put up a pegboard (perhaps one that you’ve painted yourself) and use it to hang your tools. Keep the things in order by color or how they are used.
  • Put knives and spice jars on the wall with magnets.

Give Yourself More Counter Space

If you want to make a modern kitchen, one of the most important design elements is kitchen counters that are clean and simple. This makes the kitchen look more modern and gives you more counter space, which makes it easier to prepare food and cook. First, put away all small appliances and items on the counter. You can also install a garbage disposal unit so that food waste is removed immediately rather than getting in the way when you’re trying to use the space.

Some other ways to get more counter space are:

  • A ceramic cooktop with a low profile. Electric cooktops of today are sleek and up to date. They are also almost flush with the counter, so you can put a cutting board or other things on them when they are not in use.
  • A cover for your stove. If you have a gas stove, you can buy a cover for it so that you can work on it safely when it’s not being used.
  • Use a butcher block or a cart for extra counter space. You can buy one with wheels or add your own so that you can move it out of the way when you’re not using it.
