There has been an increasing interest in K-beauty over the past few years as they continue to release innovative products and techniques. They’ve introduced us to the “proper” application of essences, ampoules, and the customary whitening facial night serum, among others, and brought to us methods like acid-layering, and the infamous 12-step Korean skincare routine.
One that’s particularly gained popularity for some time now is the “Glass Skin.” So what is Korean glass skin and what does it look like?
Glass skin is a concept that revolves around having skin that glows like glass. It’s having clear, elegant and even-toned skin that reflects light similar to the ability of glass. You don’t want it to be oily but dewy, like honey instead.
If you want glowing skin for the summer, or just that fresh moisturized look all year round, then you might want to give this routine a try.
What’s the Best Way to Get a Glass Skin Look Without Makeup?
Achieving “glass skin” sounds complicated but it really isn’t. If you already have a fixed skincare routine like toning and moisturizing, then this concept will level up your regimen and make your skin look healthy, plump and radiant.
Here’s how to get the glass skin look even without applying makeup.
- Cleanse
To achieve that translucent and flawless look, you have to have a good base. Before anything else, you have to clean your face and wash any makeup and dirt off it.
- Exfoliate
Next, make sure to exfoliate the night before. You’re going to be stacking skincare products on your face. You want your skin to be as smooth and soft as possible when you apply them so the products can be absorbed perfectly. Dead skin cells are one of the primary reasons you need to exfoliate as products won’t glide on smoothly and won’t be absorbed well if your pores are clogged.
- Toner
Apply your favorite toner, preferably one with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid helps absorb water into the skin and bind it with collagen which then makes the skin look plumper and healthier.
You’ll be applying the toner twice in a row. First, remove excess dirt that might have remained on your skin. Slowly and softly wipe your face with a cotton ball or cotton pad. Then, for the second application, you can use clean hands to put another layer of the product on your face. Simply put the product on your palm or cotton pad, and dab it on your face.
- Serum
Pick out your favorite serum and apply it to your face with your palm. If possible, choose a product with niacinamide. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that when used in skincare, can provide skin with a reduced appearance of pores, redness, and dryness. It also has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that will help your skin look smooth and fresh.
- Eye cream
The skin around your eyes is the area most susceptible to showing signs of aging like crow’s feet or wrinkles. It’s important to include an eye cream as a part of your daily skincare routine. Just put a small amount on your ring finger, known to be your weakest finger, and then dab the product under your eyes.
- Moisturizer
The most important part of the routine is moisturizing as it seals in all the nutrients and finishes off the glowing look. Choose a moisturizer with vitamin E, or antioxidants as these will not only add to that fresh glow but will help protect you from the sun. Make sure that your moisturizer is fast-absorbing and hydrating.
- Sunscreen
Finally, don’t forget to apply sunscreen. It will protect your skin from the sun’s harsh rays and will help prevent fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. Choose a sunscreen that’s made for the face or a product that won’t dry out your skin. We recommend trying any water-based sunscreen, like Biore’s UV aqua-rich watery essence.
Ready to Achieve that Glassy and Glowy Look?
Great-looking skin requires more than just products. You have to commit to it and design your diet to complement it. Products and trends are great, but you should also be mindful of the food you eat and your exercise routine. Always drink loads of water and don’t forget to exercise daily. Even the simplest type of exercise can help your pores breathe and will add glow to your skin.
