Sharing is caring!

Few things are harder than staying healthy in modern society. Balancing between work, family, and all your other responsibilities leaves little room for meeting your health goals, and you often find yourself putting them on hold. There’s a way, however, you can incorporate healthy habits into your daily life without compromising other important aspects.

In this short post, we’ll share some tips on how to get healthy fast and maintain it long term.

1. Pile Your Plate Backwards

When plating meals, most people pile half their plates with carbs, followed by protein, and topped with a scoop of veggies. However, plating should go the other way around starting with half a plate of veggies, and following the other half with starch and protein.

Complex carbs like brown rice instead of white, are much better because they leave you fuller for longer. Plating this way allows you to have your daily dose of veggies and an increase in fiber intake. This doesn’t have to be hard as you can still have great meals on a budget, but make it a habit.

2. Eat From Smaller Plates

You may not know this, but the size of your plate plays a significant role in how much food you eat. Eating from a large plate equates to eating more food that fills the plate as compared to a smaller plate. This is a simple illusion that will trick your mind into thinking that you’re satisfied with less food.

3. Put Food Away After Eating

Have you ever realized that you eat more as long as you can see food? It’s a fact that people eat more when food is within plain sight, even though they’re not hungry. Put the food away and only eat when you’re hungry and not just because you’re tempted to, or it’s convenient.

4. Eat Fatty Fish Often

Try to eat more fatty fish like salmon that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. This is an essential fat that prevents heart disease, chronic inflammation, and boosts mental health.

Fatty fish also happens to be a great source of vitamin B, which repairs DNA and maintains both nerve function and a healthy brain. Try having fatty fish at least twice a week.

5. Avoid Sugary Drinks

If you want to know how to get healthy fast, then start by eliminating your sugary drinks intake. Sugary beverages increase your risk of getting heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Even worse, sugary drinks can damage teeth, so get into the habit of consuming healthier drinks.

6. Always Have Healthy Snacks Within Reach

Cravings can derail your attempts to get healthy and not having healthy snacks within reach will increase your chances of eating unhealthy foods. These should still be out of sight but stocked in your pantry where you can reach out when you get hungry. Keep some in your bag for on-the-go snacking.

7. Drink Water Before Meals

You probably know the importance of drinking enough water, but what you may not know is that when you take it as just as important. Drinking water before meals will keep you from overeating as you’ll feel fuller and take it easy on the food.
