Getting involved in local children’s charities can be a great thing to do. Not only do you feel like you will be giving back but it can make you an active member of your local community. Charities can not function efficiently without the help of volunteers and people donating. So if this is something you want to be more involved in here are a few ways you can help the causes you believe in.
Organizing and participating in fundraisers
The first way you can get involved is to raise money for the charities you support. A great way to do this is to organize fundraisers. This could be anything from a bake sale or a garage sale. It could even be something on a grander scale like arranging an event within your local community. Don’t feel like you have to do too much too quickly. You need to build your confidence up and skills. So start off small. A great way would be to seek the support of your kid’s school. They will already have active plans in place that you can volunteer to help with.
Actively showing your support
Sometimes just showing your support is enough to get others thinking about. This could be a from a slogan t-shirt you wear that promotes the charity. Right through to wearing something like Animal Bracelets that is a little more subtle but just as effective. This is about showing the world what you believe in without needing to voice it. Actions can sometimes speak louder than words in this instance.
Getting the whole family in on the act
As parents, we have a responsibility to make sure our children grow up fully aware of the world we live in. We can always protect them in the safe bubble of home, but it’s just as good to show them that compassion and gratitude are important skills to have. This is where getting the family involved in your charitable endeavors is a great way to introduce them to the causes that you support. Of course, you also have to keep an open mind. Children are their own person at the end of the day and should be allowed to have their opinions and views. Getting the family involved in fundraisers is great as it any extra hands will make lighter work. Children could also consider donating old toys they no longer use or items for a garage sale that could be sold for funds.
Change your lifestyle
Finally, the last thing you could do would be to consider changing how you live your life. If you feel passionate about a charity or cause then sometimes going one step further to show unity and support are needed. For example, if you are passionate about animal welfare then you could consider a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle to show support. If you are compassionate towards the elderly, then you could change how you do things. Spending more time in your local community making things easier. Sometimes just looking how you live your life can help people be more aware of a charity or cause.
I hope these tips help you get more involved in charities.
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
I am an active volunteer in several charities. I don’t have much extra money so I donate my time.
