How To Keep Your Family Safe During The Summer Sun

Sharing is caring!

It is definitely great to spend some time outdoors during the summer season, but the heat of the summer sun can be harmful not only to your skin but on your overall body. Thus, as much as it is awesome to go out and enjoy activities under the sun, it is noteworthy to arm yourself with proper sun protection too. In line with this, below are some of the ways on how you can keep yourself and your family safe during the summer.

1. Always use sunscreen

The first thing that you can do to ensure that you won’t have to deal with sunburn is to always use sunscreen at least half an hour before you go out and enjoy any activity under the sun. As much as possible, use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 to 30 for you and your kids. Look also for sunscreen products that offer protection against UVA and UVB rays. The former will inhibit your skin from premature aging because of sun exposure, while the latter protects your skin from burning. Reapply sunscreen every couple of hours.

2. Wear comfortable clothes

Choose lightweight clothes which will make you feel more comfortable during the hot weather even if these come in long sleeves. In parallel to this, opt for light-colored clothing because darker shades tend to absorb the heat of the sun more. If you need to accessorize, make sure that you use sunglasses with UV protection for your eyes too.

3. Put up an umbrella in your patio

Summer is synonymous with barbecues and spending time in your yard or patio more. Make sure to keep you and your family safe from the extreme heat of the sun by setting up an umbrella in your yard or patio. Look for umbrellas made with the Sunbrella fabric because of its UV protection properties, which is approved by the Skin Care Foundation. Rest assured that these Sunbrella umbrellas come in different designs and sizes, offering you a wide variety of options to choose from to suit the overall look and feel of your yard or patio. Nevertheless, the larger ones will provide more shade, offering more protection for a larger seating area.

4. Keep yourself hydrated

Drink water, and drink lots of it. The recommended daily water intake is about eight glasses a day. However, you may have to drink more during the summer to keep yourself hydrated. This is because more water leaves your body since you tend to sweat more when it is hot. The water released by your body to cope with the heat must be replenished.

To wrap things up, go ahead and enjoy outdoor activities during summer. Just keep in mind to ensure that you have ample protection from the extreme heat of the summer sun. Always use sunscreen and wear comfortable clothing. You can also set up an umbrella in your patio, and of course, keep yourself hydrated at all times. All these are geared towards proper sun protection for you and your family.
