Despite its widespread popularity, we often get many questions on how to prepare for this procedure, which prompted our team to make this handy guide. It

The First Step

As soon as you decide on going for this procedure, you should begin checking out and evaluating all the possible clinics which offer this treatment. As obvious as this might sound, it is important to spend more time on this step to ensure a smooth treatment and good results. There would be many clinics and even certain salons that offer laser hair removal in Melbourne. But not all would have the same credentials. It is important to check the qualifications and experience of the team at each of the clinics, as well as their reviews and testimonials online. You might also want to visit the clinics and meet up with the respective teams to gauge your comfort factor at each of them. Most good clinics will be open for a discussion, irrespective of whether you go ahead with the procedure or not.

It is for this very reason that Victorian Laser & Skin Clinic offers a free, no-obligation consultation for laser hair removal at all of our branches in Melbourne. In this, we also evaluate your suitability for the procedure and answer any query that you might have.

Pre Treatment Prep

Once you choose your laser clinic, you would be given a detailed set of pre-treatment dos and don’ts, starting from around six weeks prior to your first session. Some of the common instructions include:

  • No waxing, tweezing, epilating or using hair removal creams. This ensures that the hair follicles stay intact, and are ready for laser. If you must remove hair, shaving is the only form of hair removal acceptable during treatment, as
  • Limit sun exposure and stay away from tanning and tanning products. Both of these could cause a melanin spike in the skin, which could absorb more laser heat and cause an adverse reaction. It is therefore also recommended to wear a broad spectrum sunscreen, with an SPF of 30 or more to protect your skin.
  • Avoid using any topical products that could trigger photosensitivity. Also do not go through any other cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers, microdermabrasion or chemical peels for at least two weeks prior to the treatment.
  • Before each session, stay away from medications like pain relievers, blood thinners and NSAIDS.
  • Shave the treatment area 24 hours prior to the treatment. This will make it more comfortable during your laser hair removal.
  • Immediately before your appointment, take a shower and clean the treatment area thoroughly. Do not use any lotion or cream on the area to be treated, as the skin must be clean and dry, to receive laser.
  • Get mentally ready for the session. While laser hair removal is a fairly painless experience for most, if you have a low pain threshold, you might experience some discomfort.

As you can see, it isn’t that difficult to prep for your laser hair removal in Melbourne. There could be some specific instructions for each person, but as long as you are able to be disciplined about them, you are likely to get the results you want.
