Involving Your Kids in a Spring Break Vacation

Vacation With Kids

If your family is gearing up for a spring break vacation and you and your husband are excited about it but your kids are not, what’s missing? Well, perhaps they are feeling discouraged because they don’t like where you’re going, what you’ll be doing, or the fact that they’ll be leaving friends behind at home. Though it is uncommon to not be excited for a vacation, it does happen, especially if your kids have other plans in mind for their spring break! If you need to get your kids motivated to enjoy a fun family vacation, here are some ideas. They’ll be ready to go on your planned family vacation stat!

Think About Bringing Along one of Their Friends

Yes, vacation with extra children can be challenging, but if your child is already excited to spend time with a particular friend during their spring break, why not plan ahead and bring their friend along on your vacation? Talk to his or her parents and find out if it would be alright for them to tag along for a few days. That way your child will look forward to a fun vacation knowing they will have a play mate for part or all of the time during the trip.

Allow Your Kids to Plan one or More Activities

Perhaps part of the reason your kids are not looking forward to a vacation is because you have already planned all of the activities. Most children, no matter what age they are, like to have a say in what kind of activities they’d like to do. Even though they may like some of the activities planned, allow them to plan at least one day at an amusement park or having fun at the beach in Florida, if that’s where you’re going.

Only Be Gone for Part of Spring Break

If your kids are anxious to stay local due to sporting events or important school events, it wouldn’t hurt to consider shortening your trip. Usually a spring break is seven to nine days, so if you spend five or so days away on a trip and the other days at home, this should provide your children the best of both worlds. Get excited to go on a fun vacation with your family knowing that you’ve made it possible for your kids to enjoy a fantastic vacation while still making every moment of their spring break count.
