Looking Your Best for Your Next Zoom Meeting

Sharing is caring!

Nowadays, more parents are relying on apps like Zoom and Google Meet to attend online parent-teacher conferences or have virtual meetings with coworkers. As our professional and academic lives have transitioned from face-to-face meetings to online conference calls, making a good impression requires a different approach, and looking your best still matters during virtual interactions. According to experts, looking presentable while on camera can have a positive impact on your behavior and demeanor. Moreover, it can boost your motivation and confidence, and encourage you to actively take part in virtual conferences. If you need some help to look your best for your next Zoom meeting, consider these tips to upgrade your on-cam style.

Wear a top with a flattering neckline

One of the best ways to look good on camera is to wear a top with a flattering neckline. Choose a neckline that isn’t too low, but is wide enough to show your neck and collarbones. V-neck tops are also suitable as they elongate your torso. Avoid wearing a crewneck top or a turtleneck as this can shorten your neck and make your face look wider on camera. To further create the illusion of a slimmer face, consider accessorizing with sapphire jewelry or any other type of gemstone jewelry. Drop or dangling earrings can help to elongate the face, while a long necklace can slim a round face, especially if you pick a pendant necklace since it creates a slimming effect by drawing the eye down.

Ditch the neutrals

Instead of wearing neutral-colored tops, consider wearing a brightly-colored blouse or shirt for your Zoom meeting. This is a popular styling hack that TV personalities use to look good on camera as it helps them stand out. Moreover, picking the right color that complements your skin tone will instantly improve your whole look. Those who have pale complexions should try wearing emerald green or bold shades of blue, or a blouse in a berry color. Meanwhile, those with medium skin tones will look great in a bright pink or raspberry pink blouse. If you have a deep skin tone, almost any bold color will work for you, so take your pick from cranberry red, yellow, cobalt blue, violet, orange, or purple.

Choose soft fabrics or ones with a little stretch

Wearing a structured top can make you look professional and put together in the real world, but for online conferences, a top that has a bit of stretch may make you look better. Since you’re sitting down, you’ll want to avoid wearing anything that pulls across the chest or shoulders, so don’t wear anything that gaps such as a button-up shirt. For a flattering look, opt for soft fabrics and tops that aren’t too tight. You may also want to avoid wearing anything with too much detail such as rhinestones, zippers, or oversized prints as they can be highly distracting during Zoom calls.

Wear a little makeup

Wearing a little makeup can make a difference if you’re required to turn on your camera for an online meeting. Apply a light base, such as a skin tint, tinted moisturizer, or BB cream to even out your skin. Dot concealer on blemishes and dark circles, then blend with a blending brush or sponge. Brush on some setting powder to keep shine and oil at bay. Next, clean up and define brows with a brow pencil and gel, then brush on two coats of lengthening mascara. Finish with a rosy blush and lip color to give you a healthy glow.

Dressing up for an online class, meeting, or just a chat with friends can boost your self-confidence and have a positive impact on your behavior while you’re on camera. Consider these style tips for your next Zoom meeting so you can look and feel your best.
