As part of Day 2 of my Ultimate Blog Challenge, I thought I would give you all some tips on saving money, especially when it comes to your family. In this day and age and with the economy how it is, you have to find as many ways to save money as you can. It is especially true if you have children, like the majority of my readers do. Here are just a few money saving tips that I have to help you out!
- Create a Budget – This is first and foremost on my list because there is no way you can save money for a rainy day, a down payment on your house, or anything else if you do not create a budget. There are different types of ways to create budgets, whether it be Dave Ramsey’s or the envelope system. Whatever way you decide to do it – JUST DO IT.
- Coupons – I am not saying you have to be an extreme couponer (I certainly am not) but even saving a little bit, is just that – saving. One word of advice, though – just because you have a coupon for a name brand does not mean it is automatically cheaper than a store brand. And, by the way, most store brands taste exactly the same as name brands; a lot of them are made by name brands, they just differ the recipe by a little. Since a store doesn’t pay all the advertising like name brands do, they can afford to lower the price on the product.
- Coupons for Retail – There are sites out there, like Save1, where you can virtually clip coupons to use on sites like Kohl’s, Otterbox, and much more. These are perfect to use if it’s back-to-school time or a special occasion, like a birthday or holiday.
- Daily Deal Sites – If you are wanting to have a date night or go out with your girlfriends, many daily deal sites are out there where you can pay 50% or sometimes less, for a certificate to save money on your bill.
There are many more ways to save money, but these are just a few I have for you. Do you have any money saving tips to add? I would love to hear about them!
I’m a 20-something stay-at-home mother and wife. I have an amazing husband, a beautiful daughter, two loving dogs, and a lazy cat. I wouldn’t change my life for anything! I love to read, listen to music, cook and blog!
Great tips, Courtney! I’d love to see a post of a list of sites to go to regularly to find Daily Deals!
Thanks for your kind comment, Kathy! I will have to get together a list for you and my readers of Daily Deals! 🙂

This is my first visit to your site (popped over from the UBC) and I absolutely adore it. I completely agree! And it’s not just about saving a few cents with a coupon, but the attention and focus we put into savings means we’re more conscious about our spending in general. It’s those unconscious moments, when money slips out of our hands & we look back days/weeks or months later and wonder why we’re not closer to our goals.
I also try to remember that store brands aren’t always less expensive than a special sale at my local grocery. Sometimes it’s easy to casually grab the store brand, assuming it’s less expensive. When the cost per unit with a cool promotion is a way better price. Great article. ~ Loralee
