My Mom Has a Hiatal Hernia – Please Pray

Sharing is caring!

The picture above is of my mom and Riley last week while we were visiting. Well, the past 2 months or so my mom has been having issues with acid reflux and heartburn. She hasn’t been able to keep any of her food down. She’s lost over 50 pounds because of it – she weighs less than me! She went to the doctor last month and she put her on some medicine for acid reflux and wanted her to get a colonoscopy done, along with having a scope put down her esophagus to check it out. Well, she isn’t going to be able to get that done until the 25th of this month. Monday my mom was sick all day and night so she called the doctor Tuesday morning. She gave her three options: Either eat bananas, see if the colonoscopy can be moved up, or go to the emergency room at the hospital. My mom knew she wasn’t going to be able to keep bananas down and that the office was so busy where the colonoscopy was going to be done that she wouldn’t be able to get it moved up, so she went to the ER. I’m so glad that she did – there was no way that she was going to be able to make it another 15 days! Well they were waiting on test results (she had a CAT scan, x-ray, MRI, blood work) done. They kept her overnight last night and are going to be doing an endoscope this morning to go down her esophagus. I just heard that she has a hiatal hernia that has been causing all this acid reflux and not being able to keep food down. Her esophagus is dilated and showing signs of infection. They won’t know how to fix it until they do the endoscopy today.

I’m just so happy that there has finally been a diagnoses so that it can be fixed. It’s been awful having to watch her kind of whittle away to nothing. 🙁

Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers. It would mean the world to me. Thank you.
